Tanner Elle Schneider (born July 3, 1989), who is known by her stage name Elle King, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Her music is a mix of country, rock, and blues.
In 2012, she signed with RCA Records and released her first extended play, The Elle King EP. One of its songs, "Playing for Keeps," was used as the theme song for the TV show Mob Wives Chicago.
King's first album, Love Stuff (2015), featured the hit single "Ex's & Oh's". The song became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned her two Grammy Award nominations. .....
Her parents are actor Rob Schneider and former model London King. She chose to use her mother's last name to create her own identity in the music world. Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Tanner Elle Schneider was born on July 3, 1989, in Los Angeles County, California. Her parents are actor Rob Schneider and model London King. After her parents divorced, she moved to Ohio with her mother.
When she was nine, her stepfather gave her a record by the rock band the Donnas. This inspired her to become a musician. She also started listening to bands like the Runaways and Blondie. .....
At 13, King learned to play the guitar. She loved the music of artists like Otis Redding, Etta James, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash. Her interest in country and bluegrass music led her to learn the banjo.
After high school, she moved to Philadelphia to study painting and film at the University of the Arts. During college, she saw a band use a banjo in a new way, which inspired her to use it in her own songwriting.
Music Career
2012–2013: Starting Out
In 2005, at age 16, King began performing in clubs around New York City. She was signed by RCA Records and released her first single, "Good To Be A Man," in 2012. Soon after, she released a four-song EP called The Elle King EP. The song "Playing for Keeps" from the EP became the theme for a VH1 show.
During this time, Esquire Magazine called her an "Artist to Watch." She toured with popular artists like Of Monsters and Men, Train, and Ed Sheeran.
2014–Present: Rise to Fame
In 2014, King released "Ex's & Oh's", the first single from her album Love Stuff. The album came out in 2015, and the song became a huge hit. It reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
In 2016, she worked with country singer Dierks Bentley on the song "Different for Girls". They won a CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year for the song.
King released her second album, Shake the Spirit, in 2018. In 2019, she was a guest co-host on the MTV show Catfish: The TV Show. Her third album, Come Get Your Wife, was released in 2023 and showed her moving more into country music.
Personal Life
King married Andrew Ferguson in 2016, but they divorced in 2018.
In 2020, she got engaged to tattoo artist Dan Tooker. They have two sons. Their first son, Lucky, was born in September 2021. Their second son, Royal, was born in February 2025.
King is known for having many tattoos. She got her first one when she was 14 and once worked at a tattoo shop.
She has spoken about having a complicated relationship with her father, Rob Schneider. She has said it was important for her to build her own career and identity.
