Elle King, born Tanner Elle Schneider on July 3, 1989, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Her music mixes country, rock, and blues styles. She signed with RCA Records for her first music release, The Elle King EP (2012). One song from it, "Playing for Keeps," became the theme song for a TV show called Mob Wives Chicago.
King's first full album, Love Stuff (2015), included the hit song "Ex's & Oh's." This song reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also nominated for two Grammy Awards. Early Life and Music Beginnings
Elle King was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 3, 1989. Her father is Rob Schneider, who was on Saturday Night Live. Her mother is London King. Elle grew up in Ohio, living in Wellston and Columbus.
When she was nine, her stepfather gave her an album by the Donnas, an all-female rock band. This moment made her want to become a musician. She also started listening to bands like the Runaways and Blondie. Around this time, she also acted in a movie with her father.
At 13, Elle King began playing the guitar. She loved music from artists like Otis Redding, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash. Her interest in country and bluegrass music, especially Hank Williams and Earl Scruggs, inspired her to learn the banjo. As a teenager, she attended a camp in Connecticut. There, she performed well in many musicals.
Elle King spent her teenage years in New York City. She also lived in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Copenhagen, Denmark. After high school, she moved to Philadelphia. She studied painting and film at the University of the Arts. During college, she saw a band use a banjo in a new way. This inspired her to use the banjo for writing her own songs. After college, she returned to New York, where she lives now.

Starting Out (1999–2013)
In 1999, Elle King first appeared as an actress in her father's movie Deuce Bigalow: .... In 2005, when she was 16, she began performing in clubs around New York City. She practiced her singing and songwriting skills by performing on the streets. Later, she signed with RCA Records.
Her first single, "Good To Be A Man," came out on March 13, 2012. On June 12, 2012, her four-song The Elle King EP was released. The song "Playing for Keeps" from this EP became the theme song for the TV show Mob Wives Chicago.
Esquire Magazine named Elle King an "Artist to Watch in 2012." She appeared on TV shows like VH1 Big Morning Buzz Live and the Late Show with David Letterman. She performed at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. She also toured with bands like Of Monsters and Men and Train. She opened for artists such as Dashboard Confessional and Ed Sheeran.
Albums and Awards (2014–Present)
In September 2014, King released "Ex's & Oh's." This song was the first single from her debut album, Love Stuff, which came out on February 17, 2015. She performed "Ex's & Oh's" on The Today Show to promote the album. The song became a big hit, reaching number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.
In July 2015, King toured with Modest Mouse in the UK. In 2016, her song "Good Girls" was on the Ghostbusters movie soundtrack. On March 6, 2017, she released a new song called "Wild Love." Elle King's second album, Shake the Spirit, came out on October 19, 2018. She made this album with her band, the Brethren. In 2019, she was a guest co-host on the MTV show Catfish: The TV Show.
King's third album, Come Get Your Wife, was released on January 27, 2023. This album shows her moving more into country music.

Elle King married Andrew "Fergie" Ferguson on February 14, 2016. Their relationship ended in 2018.
On October 9, 2020, King became engaged to tattoo artist Dan Tooker. They had been dating for one year. Their son, Lucky Levi Tooker, was born on September 1, 2021. On September 23, 2024, Elle King announced she was expecting her second son with Dan Tooker.
