Clifford Joseph Price (born September 19, 1965), known as Goldie, is a famous English music producer, DJ, and actor. He is also known as an artist.
Goldie first became known for his amazing graffiti art. Later, in the 1990s, he became a pioneer in UK jungle, drum and bass, and breakbeat hardcore music. He released many songs under the name Rufige Kru. He also helped start the record label Metalheadz.
He released albums under his own name, like Timeless in 1995. This album was very popular and reached number 7 on the UK music charts. Goldie has also acted in movies like the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Snatch (2000). He also appeared in the TV show EastEnders.

Goldie's Early Life
Clifford Joseph Price was born in Walsall, England. He grew up in Wolverhampton. His family background is Jamaican and Scottish. When he was three years old, he was adopted. He grew up in childcare homes and with different foster parents.
In the 1980s, Goldie was part of a breakdance crew called Westside. They were based in Wolverhampton. He later joined another breakdance group, the Birmingham Bboys. He became well-known for his graffiti art in the West Midlands.
His artwork in Birmingham and Wolverhampton was shown in a documentary called Bombin'. His graffiti was also featured in the book Spraycan Art.
Goldie moved to the United States for graffiti projects. He also started a business selling "grills," which are gold teeth jewelry. He continued this business when he returned to the UK in 1988. His nickname "Goldie" came from "Goldielocks," a name he got when he had dreadlocks.
Goldie's Career
Music Journey
By 1991, Goldie was very interested in the British breakbeat music scene. His girlfriend, DJ Kemistry, introduced him to important jungle and drum and bass producers. These were Dennis "Dego" McFarlane and Mark "Marc Mac" Clair, known as 4hero. Goldie then helped with design and finding new artists for 4hero's Reinforced Records label.
In 1992, Goldie first appeared on a record. He helped with a song called Ruffige by the group Ajax Project.
He released songs like Killa Muffin and the Dark Rider EP under the name "Rufige Kru." His song "Terminator," released as "Metal Heads" in 1992, was a big hit in the jungle music scene. In 1993, he released another song called Angel. In 1994, he started his own record label, Metalheadz.
His first studio album, Timeless, came out in 1995. This album reached number seven on the UK music charts. Timeless mixed the fast beats of jungle music with orchestral sounds and soul singing. The main song, "Timeless," was a 21-minute orchestral piece. Another song, "Inner City Life," was also very popular. Timeless helped make drum and bass music well-known.
In 1998, Goldie released his second album, Saturnz Return. This album included famous artists like David Bowie and Noel Gallagher. The first song, "Mother," was an hour-long drum and bass piece with orchestral sounds.
Goldie is also known for leading Rufige Kru. This group has no fixed members. It has included other drum and bass producers like Technical Itch and Doc Scott.
In March 2013, a collection of his best songs, The Alchemist: The Best of Goldie 1992–2012, was released. In 2014, he released a three-CD set called Masterpiece. This set included songs that influenced him and important drum and bass tracks.
In 2017, Goldie released the album The Journey Man. He called it his most important work. In 2020, Goldie started a new record label called Fallen Tree 1Hundred. In 2021, a special 25th anniversary edition of Timeless was released.
Acting Roles
Goldie has appeared in several films. He was in Guy Ritchie's Snatch. He also had a role in the James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough. He played a gangster named Angel Hudson in the British TV show EastEnders from 2001 to 2002. Goldie also acted with David Bowie in the movie Everybody Loves Sunshine (1999).
Television Appearances
Goldie has been on many TV shows. In 1987, he appeared on Daytime Live to talk about urban art. He also promoted graffiti as an art form on Central Weekend. A small documentary about his art was made for Central TV's Here and Now. He appeared on young people's TV shows as part of his breakdance crew.
In 2002, Goldie appeared on the TV show Celebrity Big Brother. He was the first celebrity to leave the show that season. In 2006, he was supposed to be on The Games. However, he broke his leg during training and could not take part.
In 2008, Goldie was on the TV show Maestro. In this show, celebrities learned to conduct an orchestra. Goldie came in second place. In 2009, a two-part TV show called Classic Goldie showed him learning to write music for an orchestra and choir. His composition, Sine Tempore, was performed at the Royal Albert Hall.
He appeared on Celebrity Mastermind in 2009. In 2010, he was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. He also appeared in a Celebrity Come Dine with Me Christmas special.
In 2011, Goldie led a three-part TV series called Goldie's Band: By Royal Appointment. In this show, he found young talented musicians. He coached 12 of them to create music for a performance at Buckingham Palace. In 2014, he appeared on the telethon BBC Children in Need.
Art and Books
In 2007, Goldie went back to the art world with an exhibition called "Love Over Gold." In 2008, he worked with DJ Pete Tong to create artwork for a club night in Ibiza. He also had an art exhibition in Berlin in 2008. In 2009, a special exhibition of his art called "Kids Are All Riot" took place in London.
Around 2008, Goldie's artwork was shown on the London Underground. In 2021, he modeled for Louis Vuitton and contributed a song.
Goldie's unique art, both visual and musical, was discussed in the book 'More Brilliant Than The Sun' (1998). This book talked about his graffiti piece Future World Machine and his song 'Terminator'. The author noted the connection between his painting and music.
In 2002, Goldie's autobiography 'Nine Lives' was published. It told his life story from childhood in care homes to his success in music. A second autobiography, 'All Things Remembered', was published in 2017. This book covered more of his life and included his thoughts on music and memories of his TV and film work.
Goldie's Personal Life
In the early 1990s, Goldie was in a relationship with fellow drum and bass artist Kemistry.
Goldie bought a house in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, in 1998. He married model Sonjia Ashby in 2002. They later divorced in 2005. As of 2003, he had five children. His son, Danny Price, has appeared on a TV show.
In 2007, Goldie started a relationship with Mika Wassenaar from Canada. They appeared on the TV show All Star Mr & Mrs in 2009. Mika and Goldie got married in 2010.
In 2010, Goldie received an honorary doctorate from Brunel University. He also received an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton.
In 2015, Goldie and his wife moved to Thailand, where they live now.
Goldie was given the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2016. This award was for his contributions to music and for helping young people.
In 2017, Goldie seemed to reveal the first name of the famous graffiti artist Banksy as "Rob" on a podcast. He said, "No disrespect to Rob, I think he is a brilliant artist."
