The Story of the Movie
The Duncan family plans to spend Christmas at Amy's parents' new home in Palm Springs, California. But their trip quickly goes wrong!
Teddy and Amy's Journey
Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) decides to give up her airplane seat for a free ticket. She wants to prove she can travel alone for spring break. Her mom, Amy (Leigh-Allyn Baker), gets off the plane with her. They soon find out the next flight to Palm Springs is after Christmas.
Stranded, Teddy and Amy try different ways to reach Palm Springs. They even try to hitchhike with an older couple. During their journey, Amy shares a big secret: she's going to have another baby! In Las Vegas, their luggage gets stolen. Teddy and Amy argue, and Teddy gets very upset. To earn money for food, they sing Christmas carols. They find the girl who stole their luggage, Jordan, who is also lost and trying to get home. Amy helps Jordan talk to her mom. Teddy even gives Jordan her plane ticket so she can get home for Christmas. This kind act helps Teddy and Amy make up.
The Rest of the Family's Adventures
Meanwhile, the rest of the family arrives in Palm Springs. Bob (Eric Allan Kramer) tries to take care of Charlie (Mia Talerico). Amy's mom, Petunia (Debra Monk), watches Bob closely. Petunia doesn't like Bob much and blames him for any problems.
PJ (Jason Dolley) learns about his grandparents' pool the hard way. He gets a bad sunburn! Gabe (Bradley Steven Perry) teaches Grandpa Hank (Michael Kagan) his favorite video game, Galaxy of Death. But Hank gets even more hooked on the game than Gabe!
The Family Reunion
PJ, Bob, and Gabe drive to Las Vegas to pick up Amy and Teddy. They get lost in the dark. They are accidentally taken to play a paintball game based on Galaxy of Death. They have to win to get their car back. Gabe wins the game by taking the "Stone of Mitrios." As a reward, they get a free helicopter ride from the game's creator.
Finally, Hank and Petunia arrive with Charlie. The whole family is reunited in the desert. Amy says it was the best Christmas they ever had. She then tells everyone she's having another baby, which makes everyone happy!
The Trip Home
On the way back to Denver, Gabe tries to take the "Stone of Mitrios" on the plane. But a flight attendant takes it away. Another flight attendant offers a free plane ticket. Teddy quickly takes it again! Amy tells Bob, "Your turn," and Bob goes after Teddy. He jokes that they'll be back by New Year's. Amy smiles, knowing they won't. The movie ends with some funny bloopers.
