Gore Mountain is a cool mountain located in a very special, uninhabited area called Avery's Gore. This unique spot is in Essex County, Vermont. It's about 6 miles (10 km) south of the Canada–US border with Quebec.

In Vermont, "gores" and "grants" are like empty pieces of land. They are parts of a county that aren't officially a town. They have very little or no self-government, and many, like Avery's Gore, have no people living there at all. Gore Mountain is surrounded by other peaks. To its northeast is Black Mountain, and to its northwest is Middle Mountain.

Where is Gore Mountain Located?

Gore Mountain stands tall at 3,332 feet (about 1,016 meters) high. It's found in a unique area called Avery's Gore in Essex County, Vermont. Imagine a piece of land that isn't officially part of any town – that's what a "gore" is in Vermont! Avery's Gore is mostly empty, with no people living there. This mountain is also quite close to the border between the United States and Canada, specifically with Quebec.

Water's Journey from Gore Mountain

Water flowing from Gore Mountain takes amazing journeys! On the north and northwest sides, small streams carry water into the Coaticook River. From there, the water travels to the Massawippi River, then the Saint-François River, and finally the mighty Saint Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. Eventually, this water reaches the huge Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean.

On the southwest side, water flows into Jim Carroll Brook. This brook then joins the North Branch of the Nulhegan River. The Nulhegan River eventually flows into the Connecticut River. The Connecticut River is a very long river that empties into Long Island Sound in Connecticut.

The southeast side of Gore Mountain drains into the Logger Branch of the Nulhegan River. The east side drains into the Black Branch, also part of the Nulhegan River system. So, water from different parts of the mountain ends up in different major rivers!
