Exploring the Story: What Happens?
The movie starts in Fairy Tale Land, where a powerful Wizard makes sure all fairy tales have their traditional happy endings. He has two helpers: Munk, who is very organized, and Mambo, who is a bit silly. The Wizard decides to take a much-needed vacation to Scotland, leaving Munk and Mambo in charge.
Ella's Dreams and Rick's Secret
We meet Ella, who is better known as Cinderella. She works hard for her stepfamily and dreams of meeting a charming prince. Her good friend at the palace is Rick, who works for the prince. Rick brings Ella an invitation to the royal ball. Ella sees Rick as just a friend, but Rick secretly likes Ella a lot. He doesn't understand why Ella is so interested in the Prince, who seems to follow every rule in a book. Rick's friends, the Three Amigos (who are chefs), think Rick is just jealous of the Prince.
Fairy Tales Go Wrong: Frieda's Plan
At the Prince's ball, things take a bad turn. Ella's evil stepmother, Frieda, finds her way into the Wizard's secret lair. She manages to scare off Munk and Mambo and messes with the magical "Scales of Good and Evil." This causes many fairy tales to go wrong! For example, Jack gets stomped on by the Giant, and Rumpelstiltskin wins his bet and takes the miller's daughter's baby.
Frieda then gathers an army of Trolls, evil witches, three Big Bad Wolves, the Giant, and Rumpelstiltskin. Ella discovers what's happening and escapes into the woods. There, she meets up with Munk and Mambo. The three of them decide to find the Prince, hoping he can defeat Frieda and fix everything.
The Chase and the Battle
Ella, Munk, and Mambo run to the Seven Dwarfs' home for safety. But witches and trolls, led by the Ice Queen, attack them! The Seven Dwarfs bravely fight off the trolls while Ella and her friends escape with the help of Rick, who has stolen a flying broom.
Frieda decides to go after Ella herself. She captures Ella and takes her back to the palace. Rick, Munk, and Mambo follow close behind. Frieda is angry because if Ella's story had gone as planned, Ella would have married the prince, and Frieda would have gotten nowhere.
Rick, Munk, and Mambo sneak into the castle and attack Frieda. During the fight, Frieda creates a big hole in the floor. Mambo pushes her in, but she uses her magic staff to fly back out. After a short battle, Rick gets hit by a magic blast meant for Ella and falls into a deep sleep. Frieda accidentally creates a portal. Ella bravely pushes Frieda into the portal. Rick then wakes up from the spell, and he and Ella finally admit their feelings for each other with a kiss.
A New Happy Ending
Ella and Rick, who are now truly in love, decide to choose their own future and get married. Rumpelstiltskin, surprisingly, has grown to care for the baby he took. The miller's daughter lets him stay at the castle as the baby's nanny. The Wizard returns from his vacation, completely unaware of all the chaos that happened while he was gone!
In a short scene during the credits, Frieda is shown trapped in the Arctic, surrounded by elephant seals.
