Hyner View State Park is a small, 6-acre (2.4 ha) state park in Pennsylvania. It's located in Chapman Township, Clinton County. The park is about 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Renovo and 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Hyner. It sits right on Pennsylvania Route 120, which is also known as the Bucktail State Park Natural Area. Hyner View State Park is completely surrounded by the huge Sproul State Forest.
This park is only 5 miles (8 km) from Hyner Run State Park. It is managed by the same team. A big stone wall borders the lookout area. This wall was built a long time ago by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This group helped people find jobs during the Great Depression in the 1930s.
The road you use to get to the park was built in 1949. After the new road opened, the first Flaming Fall Foliage Festival was held here. This festival became so popular that it moved to nearby Renovo. The park officially became a state park in 1965.
The main lookout spot in the park is very high up. It's about 1,940 feet (591 m) above sea level. The West Branch Susquehanna River below is much lower, at 640 feet (195 m). This means the lookout is an amazing 1,300 feet (396 m) above the river! The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) thinks Hyner View State Park is one of the "25 Must-See Pennsylvania State Parks."
The park is famous for its amazing views. It's also a popular place for hang gliding. From the lookout, you can see the West Branch Susquehanna River stretching for miles. Hang gliders launch from a ramp just below the wall. They then glide over the beautiful river valley. The park also has a small picnic area, a parking lot, and restrooms for visitors.
Forest Fire Wardens Monument
Hyner View State Park is home to a special monument. It honors the state's forest fire wardens. These are the brave people who help fight forest fires. The monument was put up in 1965 by the Forest Inspectors Association.
The monument is a large stone pillar. It has a plaque that says: "1915 - 1965 Dedicated to the Forest Fire Wardens of Pennsylvania in recognition of their faithful service to the Commonwealth during the past fifty years".
The pillar stands at the start of a low concrete wall. This wall is shaped like a keystone. Along the sides of the wall are twenty rough stones. Each stone came from one of Pennsylvania's twenty state forests.
