The Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti) is a special type of tiger. It's one of the six kinds of tigers still alive today. You can find these tigers in countries like Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. They used to live in southwestern China too.
This tiger is also called the Corbett's tiger. It got this name from Jim Corbett, a famous hunter and conservationist. Sadly, the Indochinese tiger is an Endangered animal. This means there are very few left in the wild. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists it as endangered. In Myanmar, this tiger is even the national animal of the country.

About Indochinese Tigers
Indochinese tigers are large, powerful cats. Male tigers are usually about 8 to 9 feet (2.4 to 2.7 meters) long. They can weigh between 330 and 430 pounds. Female tigers are a bit smaller. They are around 7 to 8 feet (2.1 to 2.4 meters) long. Females weigh about 221 to 287 pounds.
These tigers have a darker orange color than their relatives, the Bengal tigers. Their stripes are usually thin and often break up into spots. Their belly, chin, and cheeks are white.
Where Indochinese Tigers Live
You can find Indochinese tigers in several countries in Southeast Asia. These include Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam. They once lived in China, but no Indochinese tiger has been seen there since 2007.
These tigers prefer to live in different kinds of forests. They are found in lowland and highland tropical forests. These include deciduous, semi-evergreen, and evergreen forests. They also live in hilly and mountainous areas.
What Indochinese Tigers Eat
Indochinese tigers are carnivores, meaning they eat meat. They mostly hunt medium-sized and large wild animals called ungulates. Some of their favorite foods include Sambar deer, wild pigs, and serow. They also hunt large bovids like banteng and young gaur.
Some animals they used to hunt, like the kouprey and Schomburgk's deer, are now extinct. Other prey, like the Eld's deer, hog deer, and wild water buffalo, are still alive but very rare. Indochinese tigers also eat smaller animals. These include muntjac deer, porcupines, macaques, and hog badgers. Sometimes, they will also eat birds, fish, monkeys, and reptiles.
Indochinese Tiger Reproduction
Female Indochinese tigers are pregnant for about 3 to 4 months. After this time, they give birth to around 5 cubs. Newborn cubs weigh about 2 pounds (1 kg). They are born blind and cannot help themselves.
The mother tiger feeds her cubs milk for about 2 months. After that, she slowly introduces them to meat. Indochinese tiger cubs stay with their mother for about 18 months. During this time, they learn how to hunt and survive on their own. Once they are old enough, they leave their mother to find their own territory.
