The International Grains Council (IGC) is like a special club for countries that deal with grains. Grains are super important foods like wheat, rice, and corn. The IGC helps these countries work together to make sure there's enough food for everyone and that the prices of grains stay fair. It also helps keep track of how much grain is available around the world.
The IGC started in 1949 as the International Wheat Council. It changed to its current name in 1995. Its main office is in London, England.

What the IGC Does
The IGC is an intergovernmental organization. This means it's made up of different governments working together. Its main job is to help the global grain trade run smoothly.
It works to make sure the market for grains is stable. This helps with food security around the world. Food security means that everyone has access to enough safe and healthy food.
The IGC collects information and gives reports on grains and oilseeds. Oilseeds are plants like sunflowers or soybeans that we get oil from. This information helps countries and businesses understand what's happening in the grain market.
The IGC also has something called the Grains and Oilseeds Index. This index tracks the prices of grains and oilseeds around the world. Anyone can see it on their website.
The IGC also helps with the Food Assistance Convention. This is an agreement where countries promise to help people who don't have enough food.
Helping with Food Assistance
The IGC helps manage the Food Assistance Convention. This agreement is all about making sure people in need get food.
The first Food Aid Convention was in 1995. It listed certain foods that could be given as aid. Later, in 1999, a new convention broadened the list of products.
A newer Food Assistance Convention started on January 1, 2013. This new agreement focuses on many ways to help people get food. It's not just about giving food directly. It also helps people get better access to food. This convention also aims for more openness and responsibility in how food aid is given.
