Kim Ji-soo (Hangul: 김지수), known as Jisoo, was born on January 3, 1995. She is a talented singer and actress from South Korea. Many people know her as a member of the popular K-pop girl group Blackpink. This group started in August 2016 under a company called YG Entertainment.
Besides singing, Jisoo has also shown her acting skills. She had a small role in a TV show called The Producers in 2015. Later, she got her first main acting role in the TV series Snowdrop, which aired from 2021 to 2022.
In March 2023, Jisoo released her first solo album, Me. This album became a huge success! It was the best-selling album by a female solo artist in South Korea. It was also the first album by a female solo artist to sell over a million copies. The main song from the album, "Flower", was very popular. It reached number two on the Billboard Global 200 chart. It also set new records for a Korean female solo artist on the Canadian Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. In 2024, Jisoo started her own company called Blissoo.
Jisoo has won many awards for her work. These include two Golden Disc Awards and three MAMA Awards. She also won a Circle Chart Music Award and the Seoul International Drama Award for being an amazing Korean actress. She is the most-followed Korean actress on Instagram. Jisoo is also known for her big influence in fashion as a global ambassador for Dior.

Jisoo's Early Life and Career
Growing Up and Starting Out (1995–2015)
Kim Ji-soo was born on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She has an older brother and an older sister. When she was a child, Jisoo enjoyed playing basketball and practicing taekwondo. She even dreamed of becoming a painter or a writer. She was also a big fan of the Korean boy group TVXQ.
Jisoo went to high school at the School of Performing Arts Seoul. In her second-to-last year, she joined a drama club. This helped her get more experience in the entertainment world by going to auditions. Before she became famous, Jisoo lived with her parents, siblings, and grandparents. Besides speaking Korean, Jisoo also learned to speak Chinese and Japanese.
In 2011, Jisoo joined YG Entertainment as a trainee. This means she trained to become an idol. In October 2014, she appeared in the music video for "Spoiler + Happen Ending" by Epik High. In the same year, she was in Hi Suhyun's music video for "I'm Different". In 2015, Jisoo had a small guest role in the KBS2 TV show The Producers. She appeared alongside other artists from her company, like Sandara Park from 2NE1 and Kang Seung-yoon from Winner.
Becoming a Star with Blackpink (2016–2022)
Jisoo officially became one of the four members of the girl group Blackpink on August 8, 2016. The other members are Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The group's first album, Square One, included the songs "Whistle" and "Boombayah." "Whistle" became a number one hit in South Korea. In 2018, Blackpink signed a deal with Interscope Records to work together globally with YG Entertainment.
From 2017 to 2018, Jisoo was a host on the music show Inkigayo. She hosted alongside Got7's Jin-young and NCT's Doyoung. In 2019, she had a short guest role in the TV show Arthdal Chronicles. She played the love interest of Song Joong-ki's character. In June 2020, Jisoo's style in the teasers for Blackpink's song "How You Like That" became very popular online. Many celebrities and influencers copied her "two-bow hairstyle" and makeup, which Jisoo actually created herself. Her "dot style" makeup also became a trend on social media like Instagram. Jisoo also helped write the song "Lovesick Girls" from Blackpink's first full album, The Album (2020).
In 2021, Jisoo got her first main acting role in the JTBC TV series Snowdrop. She played a college student named Eun Yeong-ro. Her character was held hostage by a North Korean agent, played by Jung Hae-in. The show was very popular and ranked number one on Disney+ in several countries, including South Korea. In September 2022, Jisoo won the Outstanding Korean Actress award at the Seoul International Drama Awards for her role in Snowdrop.
Jisoo also helped write another song, "Yeah Yeah Yeah". This song was on Blackpink's second album, Born Pink (2022).
Solo Music and Acting (2023–Present)
On January 2, 2023, YG Entertainment announced that Jisoo would release solo music that year. They said she was already recording her album. On February 21, her company shared that they were filming her music video in a secret location overseas. They said it had the biggest budget ever for a Blackpink music video. Jisoo's solo album Me came out on March 31, 2023. It included the main song "Flower" and another song called "All Eyes on Me."
Me became number one on the Circle Album Chart. It sold over 1.03 million copies in its first week! This broke the record for the best-selling album by a K-pop female solo artist. It was also the first time a female solo artist sold over a million copies in history. The song "Flower" was a big hit in South Korea, reaching number two on the Circle Digital Chart. It stayed in the top ten for 12 weeks. Around the world, "Flower" reached number two on the Billboard Global 200 chart. It also became the highest-charting song by a Korean female solo artist on the Canadian Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Jisoo performed "Flower" on the TV show Inkigayo and won nine music show awards in South Korea. She also performed the song during Blackpink's concerts at Coachella in April and BST Hyde Park in July.
Jisoo had a special guest role as a Korean traditional fairy in the movie Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman, which came out on September 27, 2023. On August 31, it was announced that Jisoo would star in a new TV series called Newtopia. This drama is about a zombie outbreak and is written by Han Jin-won, who wrote the movie Parasite. Jisoo will also make her first main movie role in the film The Prophet: Omniscient Reader. She will play Lee Ji-hye alongside actor Lee Min-ho. Filming for this movie will start in December.
On November 22, 2023, King Charles III gave Jisoo and her bandmates a special honor. They were made Honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) at Buckingham Palace. The President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, was also there. On December 5, YG Entertainment announced that Blackpink members had renewed their contracts for group activities. However, on December 29, YG Entertainment confirmed that Jisoo and the other Blackpink members decided not to sign new contracts with the company for their individual activities.
On February 21, 2024, Jisoo started her own company called Blissoo. She is planning to release new music on February 14, 2025.
Jisoo's Big Impact
Jisoo is a very popular K-pop idol. In surveys by Gallup Korea, she was ranked as the 10th most popular K-pop idol in 2018 and 17th in 2019. In 2019, she was the sixth most popular female K-pop idol in a survey of soldiers in South Korea. That same year, Jisoo was one of only two Korean singers on the BoF 500 list. This list names important people who influence the fashion industry. In December 2022, Time magazine said Jisoo was the most-followed Korean actress on Instagram, with over 66 million followers. As of October 2024, she has 79.5 million followers, making her the fourth most-followed K-pop idol after her bandmates Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé.
Jisoo was also in the top ten celebrities who influence the world of cosmetics in early 2020. Women's Wear Daily, a fashion magazine, reported that Jisoo had the highest average engagement on her posts. She was followed by stars like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner. Jisoo was the only East Asian person on this list.
The Korea Enterprise Research Institute ranked Jisoo first in their list of girl group members' personal brand reputation. This means she has a big impact on what people buy and are interested in. A director from the Korean Language Research Institute said that the Korean wave (the global popularity of Korean culture) is changing how people see beauty worldwide. He named Jisoo and Jungkook as new standards for world beauty.
In 2020, Dior's sales went up during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea. This was partly because of their marketing with Korean pop singers, including Jisoo. She appeared in ads for Dior's new Bobby bag. At Dior's Spring/Summer 2021 fashion show, Jisoo got a lot of attention as a representative from Korea. Her attendance helped Dior get its highest-rated social media post. In March 2021, Dior's creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, said that Dior's Autumn/Winter 2021 collection was inspired by Jisoo. Also, one of the new shades of Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm, #025 Seoul Scarlet, was inspired by Korean women like Jisoo.
When Jisoo attended the Dior Spring/Summer 2022 show, it created a lot of excitement. She was the public figure who generated the most media value during Paris Fashion Week. Four photos on her Instagram were valued at $1.84 million. She also brought in $15.7 million for Dior with just two posts. In March, she again generated the highest media value for a social media post during Dior's Autumn/Winter 2022 fashion show in Paris. One photo was valued at $1.74 million.
In March 2021, the KartRider Rush+ app's ranking went up after they announced a design partnership with Jisoo. The collaboration was very popular with users.
Helping Others
On January 3, 2023, her 28th birthday, Jisoo started her own YouTube channel called 'Happy Jisoo 103%'. She said that all the money earned from her channel would be given to charity. On March 12, 2024, it was announced that the charity she chose was Save the Children.
Fashion and Brand Deals

Before she debuted with Blackpink, Jisoo appeared in ads for brands like Samsonite, Smart Uniform, LG Electronics, and Nikon. In September 2018, Jisoo and her bandmate Rosé became models for the Japanese cosmetics brand Kiss Me. In February 2021, the Korean clothing brand It Michaa chose Jisoo as their muse for their Spring 2021 collection. She also promoted their 2021 summer line. In August 2021, Jisoo became the spokesperson for the Korean short-form video app CELEBe. In March 2022, Jisoo became the brand ambassador for Nexon's game MapleStory. In December 2023, Dyson chose Jisoo as their official Brand Ambassador for their new hair care products. In January 2024, the American sports clothing company Alo Yoga announced Jisoo as the new face for their Spring 2024 campaign. On March 6, 2024, Jisoo was chosen as the new face of the London fashion house Self-Portrait for their Spring 2024 collection. She is the first musician to be part of this campaign.
Working with Dior
In December 2019, Jisoo became a local ambassador for Dior's makeup brand, Dior Beauty. The next summer, Jisoo became a muse for Dior and modeled for their Fall/Winter 2020 collection. In September 2020, Jisoo was on the cover of Dazed Korea magazine, where she talked about her work with Dior. In December 2020, Jisoo was photographed with the Lady Dior and D'Lite bags from Dior's Cruise 2020–2021 Collection.
In January 2021, Dior Beauty released a new product called "Dior Forever Skin Glow Cushion," which Jisoo promoted, only in Korea. She also promoted the brand's Spring/Summer Collection, wearing Dior's Caro bag. The next March, Jisoo became an even bigger partner with Dior when they announced her as their new global ambassador. She joined other famous ambassadors like Natalie Portman and Cara Delevingne. In May 2021, Jisoo worked with Dior on her first big project. She was the face of the Dior Fall '21 and Dior Vespa campaigns and was on the June cover of Elle magazine in four countries. Jisoo also modeled Dior's new lip balm, Dior Addict Lip Glow, for the Dior Beauty series.
In June 2021, Jisoo attended the Dior Resort 2022 show in Greece. She wore an all-white linen dress designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. In September 2021, Jisoo attended Dior's Womenswear Spring/Summer 2022 show during Paris Fashion Week. She sat in the front row next to the chairman and CEO of Dior. Before the show, Dior shared her journey to Paris on social media. They showed her visiting Dior's workshops and learning about the inspiration behind the new collection.
In February 2022, Jisoo became the face of Dior's Addict lipstick collection. She joined other ambassadors like Anya Taylor-Joy and Sharon Alexie. To celebrate her 28th birthday, Dior even released a new shade of lip gloss called "031 Strawberry."
Working with Cartier
In September 2020, Jisoo was chosen as the main model for Cartier's Pasha de Cartier watches. On May 25, 2022, Cartier announced Jisoo as their new brand ambassador. She joined the Panthère de Cartier family, which includes other stars like Annabelle Wallis and Ella Balinska. Before Cartier celebrated 100 years of their Trinity collection, Jisoo was one of the stars in their campaign. She appeared alongside Yara Shahidi, Paul Mescal, Labrinth, and Jackson Wang. In July 2024, Jisoo attended a Cartier event in Singapore to celebrate the Trinity collection's 100th anniversary.
Working with Tommy Hilfiger
In October 2024, Jisoo was announced as a global ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger. She was featured in the brand's Fall 2024 campaign.
Fun Collaborations
In February 2021, Line Friends announced that Jisoo would be their special partner to design a character for the mobile game KartRider Rush+. This character was released on March 19, 2021. Jisoo personally drew the items and ideas for the character herself. Her designs included Chichi, a rabbit inspired by her nickname "Turtle Rabbit Kim," and Dalgom, which is also the name of her pet dog. Both Chichi and Dalgom were also made into stickers for the Line Messenger app.
