History of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame

The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame started in 1961. This was part of Kansas's 100th birthday celebration. The museum has been in a few different places over the years. Now, it is located in Wichita at the Wichita Boathouse.

The museum gets money to run from donations, ticket sales, and its gift shop. It also hosts special events. The museum is a fun place for families to visit. It can also be used for parties, meetings, and other gatherings.

In June 2009, the museum announced some big changes. It created the Kansas Sports Museum in Newton, Kansas. The Hall of Fame also shared that it would move to the Wichita Boathouse. This move helped save money. The Boathouse already displayed the America³ yacht, which won the 1992 America's Cup.

The new museum in Newton has a large space. It holds exhibits and items that the Hall of Fame did not have room for in its new Wichita location. The museum in Old Town Wichita was closed for a while during the move and updates.
