Stratosphere Las Vegas - November 2003
The Strat tower is the tallest observation tower in the United States
Las Vegas 89
The Strip in 2010

Las Vegas, Nevada, is famous for its bright lights and tall buildings! This city and its nearby areas, known as the Las Vegas Valley, are home to over 160 high-rise buildings. More than 40 of these towers stand taller than 400 feet (122 meters).

The very tallest structure in Las Vegas is the Strat tower. It reaches an amazing 1,149 feet (350 meters) into the sky. The Strat is the tallest observation tower in the whole United States! But it's not called a "building" because most of it isn't used for living or working.

The tallest actual building in Las Vegas is the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. It stands 735 feet (224 meters) tall. This building was finished "topping out" (meaning its highest point was reached) in 2008. It stayed unfinished for many years because of money problems, but it finally opened in December 2023. The second tallest building is Resorts World, which has 59 floors and is 673 feet (205 meters) tall. It was finished in 2021.

Tall hotels started appearing more often on the famous Las Vegas Strip in the 1960s. The first high-rise hotel and casino to be taller than 492 feet (150 meters) was the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. It was finished in 1997 and is 529 feet (161 meters) tall. Las Vegas began building many skyscrapers in the late 1990s. Most of the city's tallest buildings were built after 1997. As of 2012, Las Vegas had 176 completed high-rises. This makes its skyline the 66th tallest in the world and 18th in the United States.

Many new skyscrapers are planned for Las Vegas. More than 30 towers are expected to be taller than 400 feet (122 meters). The tallest building approved for the city is the World Jewelry Center. It's planned for Downtown Las Vegas and will be 815 feet (248 meters) tall. This tower is part of a plan to create a center for the world's jewelry business.

Las Vegas's Tallest Buildings

This list shows the tallest completed skyscrapers in Las Vegas. These buildings are at least 400 feet (122 meters) tall. We measure their height from the ground to the very top, including spires and fancy designs. We don't count antenna masts. If two buildings have the same height, they share a rank. The "Year" column shows when the building was finished. We also include very tall observation towers like the Strat, even though they aren't "buildings," so you can compare them.

Many of Las Vegas's skyscrapers are on the Las Vegas Strip. Most of the Strip is actually outside the official city limits of Las Vegas. However, the United States Postal Service uses "Las Vegas, NV" as the mailing address for nearby areas like Paradise, Winchester, and Spring Valley. So, it can be hard to tell where the city ends and these communities begin. This list includes all tall buildings in the Las Vegas area.

Who Was Tallest When?

This list shows which building was the tallest in Las Vegas over time. The Fontainebleau Las Vegas is the current tallest building. The Strat observation tower has been the tallest structure since 1996. But it's not a "building" because people don't live or work in most of it. So, it's not on this list.
