Portland, the biggest city in Oregon, is home to many tall buildings. There are 31 buildings that are at least 250 feet (76 meters) tall. Four of these are even taller than 492 feet (150 meters)!
The very tallest building in Portland is the Wells Fargo Center. It stands 546 feet (166 meters) high in Downtown Portland. It was finished in 1972.
The second tallest building is the U.S. Bancorp Tower. It is 536 feet (163 meters) tall and was completed in 1983. The KOIN Center, which is 509 feet (155 meters) tall, is the third tallest. It was also finished in 1983.
People think that the history of skyscrapers in Portland began in 1907. That's when the Wells Fargo Building was built. It was 182 feet (55 meters) tall and had 12 floors. The Wells Fargo Center was the first building in Portland to be taller than 492 feet (150 meters).
As of 2017, three more tall buildings were being built. They are planned to be at least 250 feet (76 meters) tall. Portland's skyline is one of the tallest in the Northwestern United States. It ranks second after Seattle.
