Maicon's Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey in Brazil
Maicon began his professional career with Cruzeiro in 2001. He quickly showed his talent as a right-sided player who could attack and defend. After two successful seasons in Brazil, where he even got called up to the Brazil national team, he moved to Europe. In June 2004, he joined Monaco in France.
Becoming a Star at Inter Milan
Joining Inter and Early Success (2006–2009)
In July 2006, Maicon joined Inter Milan in Italy. He quickly became a key player, known for his strong defense and powerful runs down the right side of the field. He often set up goals or scored them himself with his powerful right foot. He became the first-choice right-back, even taking the spot from Inter's captain, Javier Zanetti. Many people thought he was one of the best wing-backs in the world.
Maicon helped Inter win their fourth straight Serie A title in the 2008–09 season. He scored important goals, including two in one match against Siena.
Winning the Treble (2009–2010 Season)

The 2009–10 season was amazing for Maicon and Inter Milan. He started by scoring a goal in a huge 4–0 win against Milan. He continued to play strongly, scoring a fantastic goal against Juventus by juggling the ball over a defender and then volleying it into the net.
Maicon scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Barcelona in a famous victory for Inter. He even lost a tooth after a collision with Lionel Messi in that game! Inter went on to win the Champions League, beating Bayern Munich in the final. They also won the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, completing a historic "treble" (winning three major trophies in one season). Maicon was named the best defender in the Champions League that year.
Final Season with Inter (2011–2012)
In the 2011–12 season, Maicon played 23 games in Serie A. He scored two goals, including a powerful shot from outside the box in a 4–2 win against Milan.
Time at Manchester City
On 31 August 2012, Maicon moved to Manchester City in England. He played his first game for City on 15 September. However, he struggled with injuries and found it hard to get a regular spot in the team. He couldn't replace Pablo Zabaleta as the main right-back. After one season, he left the club.
Playing for Roma in Italy

Maicon returned to Italy on 18 July 2013, joining Roma on his 32nd birthday. Roma had a fantastic start to the 2013–14 season, winning their first ten Serie A games. Maicon played his first game for Roma on 25 August.
He scored his first goal for Roma on 8 December in a 2–1 home win against Fiorentina. He scored again in 2014 in a 4–0 win against Genoa. In October 2014, Maicon signed a new contract to stay with Roma until June 2016.
Returning to Brazil
On 31 May 2017, Maicon signed with Brazilian club Avaí. This marked his return to Brazilian football after 13 years in Europe. In December 2017, Maicon announced his retirement after playing one season with Avaí.
However, in December 2018, Maicon decided to play again! He signed a one-year contract with Criciúma, a club he played for as a youth. He said his son was one of the reasons he came back to football.
In September 2020, Maicon joined Villa Nova. Then, in January 2021, he moved to Italy again to play for Sona, a club in Serie D. His last club was Tre Penne in San Marino, where he played two games in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
On 7 May 2023, Maicon officially announced his retirement from professional football.
Maicon's International Career

Maicon played for Brazil's under-20 team before making his senior international debut on 12 July 2003, against Mexico. He quickly became the main right-back for the Seleção, which is the nickname for the Brazilian national team.
He won the Copa América with Brazil in 2004 and 2007. He also won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005 and 2009.
Maicon played in his first FIFA World Cup in 2010, scoring a goal in Brazil's 2–1 win over North Korea. In the 2014 World Cup, held in Brazil, he became the starting right-back for the quarter-final match against Colombia and for the rest of the tournament.
Maicon's Playing Style

Maicon was known for his amazing energy and stamina. He could help his team both in attack and defense. He played as a full-back or an attacking wing-back (a player who covers the entire side of the field). He had great physical strength, speed, and excellent technical skills. He also had good vision, could cross the ball well, and had a powerful shot.
Because of his success, strength, and power, he was nicknamed "Il Colosso" ("The Colossus") during his time at Inter Milan. There, he became one of the best attacking full-backs in the world, working well with his teammate Javier Zanetti.
Personal Life
Maicon is related to another former Brazilian international footballer, Valdomiro, who is his great-uncle.
