Maicon started his football journey in Brazil with clubs like Grêmio and Criciúma when he was young. He then played for Cruzeiro from 2000 to 2004, where he won a national league title. After that, he moved to Europe, joining Ligue 1 team Monaco in France.
After two years in Monaco, Maicon joined Inter Milan in Italy in 2006. This is where he became a truly famous player. Maicon's Club Career Highlights
Starting in Brazil and Moving to Europe
Maicon began his professional career at Cruzeiro in 2001. He quickly showed his talent as a right-sided player who could attack and defend. After two successful seasons in Brazil, where he won a championship and was called up to the Brazilian national team, he moved to Europe. In June 2004, he signed with Monaco in France.
Becoming a Star at Inter Milan
Joining Inter and Early Success (2006–2009)
In July 2006, Maicon joined Inter Milan in Italy. He quickly became a key player for the team. He was known for being strong in defense and making powerful runs down the right side of the field. He often helped set up goals or scored them himself with his strong right foot. He even took over the right-back position from Inter's captain, Javier Zanetti, who then moved to midfield. Maicon was seen as one of the best players in his position in the world.
He helped Inter win their fourth straight Serie A title in the 2008–09 season. He even scored two goals in one game against Siena that season.
Winning the Treble (2009–2010 Season)

Maicon continued his amazing form in the 2009–10 season. He started by scoring a goal in a big 4–0 win against Milan. He also scored a fantastic goal against Juventus, juggling the ball over a defender and then volleying it into the net.
Later that season, Maicon scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Barcelona. Inter had a famous victory over Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League. On May 22, 2010, Inter won the Champions League final against Bayern Munich. This win meant Inter had achieved the "treble" – winning the league, the Italian Cup, and the Champions League all in one season! Maicon was named the best defender in the Champions League for that season and was even nominated for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.
Later Years at Inter (2011–2012)
In the 2011–12 season, Maicon played 23 games and scored two goals. One of his goals was a powerful shot from outside the box in a 4–2 win against Milan.
Time in England with Manchester City
On August 31, 2012, Maicon joined Manchester City in England. He made his debut on September 15. However, he struggled with injuries and found it hard to get a regular spot in the team. He couldn't replace Pablo Zabaleta as the main right-back. When the manager, Roberto Mancini, left the club, Maicon was not included in the team's future plans.
Return to Italy with Roma

On July 18, 2013, Maicon returned to Serie A and joined Roma on a free transfer. He signed a two-year contract on his 32nd birthday, July 26.
Roma had a fantastic start to the 2013–14 season, winning their first ten league games. Maicon scored his first goal for Roma in December 2013 against Fiorentina. He continued to play well, helping Roma win games and reach the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. In October 2014, Maicon extended his contract with Roma until June 2016.
Playing Back in Brazil
In May 2017, Maicon signed a one-year contract with Brazilian team Avaí. This was his return to Brazilian football after 13 years in Europe. After one season with Avaí, he announced his retirement in December 2017.
However, in December 2018, Maicon decided to play again! He signed a one-year contract with Série B team Criciúma, which was a club he played for as a youth. In September 2020, he joined Campeonato Brasileiro Série D side Villa Nova.
Final Years in Football
In January 2021, Maicon joined Italian Serie D club Sona. Later that year, in June 2021, he moved to Tre Penne in San Marino. He played two games for them in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. On May 7, 2023, Maicon officially announced his retirement from professional football.
Maicon's International Career with Brazil

Maicon played for Brazil's under-20 team before making his senior international debut on July 12, 2003, in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Brazil finished as runner-up in that tournament, and Maicon was named in the team of the tournament.
He became the main right-back for the Brazilian national team, known as the Seleção. He won the Copa América twice, in 2004 and 2007. He also won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005 and 2009.
Maicon played in his first FIFA World Cup in 2010 and scored a goal in his very first World Cup game, a 2–1 win against North Korea. In June 2014, he was part of Brazil's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in his home country. He started as the right-back in the quarter-final win against Colombia and for the rest of the tournament.
Maicon's Playing Style
Maicon was known for his incredible energy and stamina. He could help his team both in attack and defense. He played as a full-back or an attacking wing-back. He had great physical strength, speed, and excellent technical skills. He also had good vision, could deliver great crosses, and had a powerful shot. This made him a very dangerous player on the right side of the field. Because of his strength, speed, and power, he was nicknamed "Il Colosso" (meaning "The Colossus") during his time at Inter Milan. He became one of the best attacking full-backs in the world there.
Personal Life
Maicon is related to another former Brazilian international footballer, Valdomiro, who is his great-uncle.
