Early Life and Education
Maudy Ayunda was born Ayunda Faza Maudya on December 19, 1994, in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is the oldest daughter of Didit Jasmedi R. Irawan and Muren Murdjoko. Her younger sister, Amanda Khairunnisa, is also a well-known influencer and has acted in several films.
From a young age, Maudy loved books and learning. She started reading at age 3. Her first word was "Kompas," which was the name of a newspaper at that time. As a shy child, she often read quietly during family gatherings. In an interview, Maudy said that education was her safe place. She felt it was a space completely her own, where she could be proud of her successes and learn from her failures.
Maudy went to Al-Azhar school until second grade. Then she moved to Mentari Intercultural School. She found this change difficult because she was the only student in her class who did not speak English. She remembered the headmaster telling her and her mother that she might have to repeat a grade. But Maudy quickly improved her English. She successfully finished junior high school at Mentari. After that, she went to high school at the British School Jakarta, where she also became the head of the student council.
After finishing high school in 2011, she took a year off, even though she was accepted to Columbia University. The next year, Maudy started her university studies. She earned a bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford. She graduated with high honors. In 2019, she was accepted into two very famous universities: Harvard and Stanford.
