Maya Joint (born on 16 April 2006) is a talented Australian professional tennis player. She has achieved a career-high singles ranking of 28 by the WTA. Her best doubles ranking was No. 33. Maya has won four WTA Tour titles so far: two in singles and two in doubles. She proudly represents Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup team competition.

Early Life and Tennis Beginnings
Maya Joint was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, USA. Her father, Michael, is Australian, and her mother, Katja, is German. Both her parents were competitive squash, tennis, and badminton players. Maya's father moved from Australia at 19 to play professional squash. He met Katja in Germany. They settled in Detroit in 2004.
Maya started playing tennis very young, in kindergarten. She would hit tennis balls with her father using a squash racquet. She was born a dual citizen of Australia and the United States. As a teenager, Maya showed great promise on the ITF junior circuit. At 17, in mid-2023, she decided to represent Australia. She moved to Brisbane to train at the National Academy (Queensland). There, she trained with other top players like Kim Birrell and Ajla Tomljanović. After her 19th birthday, in mid-2025, Maya moved to Melbourne.
Choosing a Professional Path
On 8 November 2023, Maya committed to play for the Texas Longhorns tennis team in college. This was planned for the 2024/25 season. However, in August 2024, she faced a choice. To keep her eligibility for college sports, she would have to give up prize money from professional tournaments. This is a rule set by the NCAA.
On 26 December 2024, Maya announced her decision. She chose to become a professional tennis player. This meant she would not play college tennis.
Maya Joint's Professional Tennis Career
Maya had a combined ranking of No. 20 on the ITF Junior Circuit on 29 January 2024.
2021-2022: Starting on the Pro Tour
Maya played her first professional tournament at just 14 years old in February 2021. She returned to the professional tour in late 2022. At 16, she won her first main-draw match in a W25 event in Waco, Texas.
2023: First ITF Title
In November 2023, Maya reached her first professional semifinal. This was at the W60 Sydney Challenger event. A month later, she won her first ITF title. This was in doubles at the 2023 Gold Coast Tennis International in Queensland. She partnered with Roisin Gilheany.
2024: Grand Slam Debut and First Singles Win
Maya made her first Grand Slam tournament appearance at the 2024 Australian Open. She played in mixed doubles with Dane Sweeny. In February 2024, at 17, Maya made history. She became the youngest Australian player to win a W75 singles title. This happened at the Burnie tournament.
In July, she was a runner-up at the WTA 125 Polish Open. She made her major singles debut at the 2024 US Open. She qualified for the main draw and recorded her first major win. She defeated Laura Siegemund before losing in the second round.
2025: A Year of Breakthroughs and WTA Titles
Maya started 2025 by winning a match at the Brisbane International. The next week, she reached her first WTA semifinal at the Hobart International. She defeated a top-50 player for the first time. Maya received a wildcard entry into the main draw at the Australian Open.
Partnering with Taylah Preston, Maya won her first WTA 125 doubles title. This was at the Cancún Open in February. In March, she qualified for the Mérida Open. She then entered the top 100 in singles rankings for the first time. She became the second-youngest teenager in the top 100.
Maya made her debut for the Australia Billie Jean King Cup team in April. She played against Kazakhstan. Later, at the Madrid Open, she secured her first WTA Tour main-draw clay-court win. At 19 years and five days, she became the youngest Australian to win a WTA 1000 match. This broke a record set by Ashleigh Barty.
In May, Maya won her first WTA Tour singles title at the Morocco Open. She also won the doubles title at the same tournament with Oksana Kalashnikova. These wins boosted her to new career-high rankings. She then made her French Open debut.
Moving to the grass-court season, Maya won her second career singles title. This was at the Eastbourne Open in June. She saved four match points in the final. Days later, she made her main-draw debut at Wimbledon. In August, she reached the third round of the Cincinnati Open. She also reached the second round of the US Open.
In September, Maya reached the semifinals at the Korea Open. She was also a runner-up in doubles there. The following week, she reached the third round of the China Open. In October, she made it to the semifinals at the Hong Kong Open. She played for Australia in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup play-offs in November. Her team won their group and advanced to the 2026 qualifying round.
2026: WTA 500 Doubles Title and a Memorable Wimbledon Win
Maya started 2026 representing Australia at the 2026 United Cup. She reached the quarterfinals with Alex de Minaur. She then played at the Adelaide International, reaching the quarterfinals. At the Australian Open, Maya was seeded 30th. This made her the first Australian seed since 2022. She lost in the first round of singles, but reached the third round in doubles.
In February, Maya teamed up with Ekaterina Alexandrova. They won her first WTA 500 doubles title at the Abu Dhabi Open. This was a significant win for her.
In June, Maya faced a challenging period. She lost in the first round of the Eastbourne Open. This was her eleventh straight WTA Tour singles defeat. Her ranking dropped as a result. However, at Wimbledon, she achieved a huge victory. She defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the first round. This was a very high-profile win for her career. Maya then lost in the second round.
