Miranda Katherine Hart Dyke (born 14 December 1972) is a famous English actress, comedian, and writer. She is best known for her funny TV show called Miranda. This show was based on her own life and was very popular.
Miranda has won many awards for her work. These include three Royal Television Society awards and four British Comedy Awards. She also received four BAFTA nominations for her show.
Before her own show, Miranda appeared in other BBC comedies. These included Hyperdrive and Not Going Out. She also played a character named Camilla "Chummy" in the BBC drama Call the Midwife. In 2015, she made her first Hollywood movie, the action-comedy Spy.
Miranda has written five books. Some of her popular titles are Is It Just Me? and Peggy and Me. In 2017, she hosted the Royal Variety Performance. This made her the first solo female host in 105 years!

Miranda Hart was born on December 14, 1972, in Torquay, Devon, England. Her father is Captain David Hart Dyke. Her mother is Diana Margaret Luce.
Miranda's grandfather was Sir William Luce. He was a very important leader in Aden. Her uncle is Lord Luce. Miranda comes from a well-known family.
School and Training
Miranda grew up in Petersfield, Hampshire. She went to Downe House, a private boarding school for girls. There, she was friends with sports presenter Clare Balding.
After school, she studied political science at the University of the West of England, Bristol. She then went on to study acting. She attended the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. In 2002, Miranda performed her own show in Edinburgh. Later, in 2004, she presented a comedy idea to the BBC.
Comedy and Acting Career
Television Shows
Before her own show, Miranda appeared in many British comedies. In Not Going Out, she played a clumsy cleaner named Barbara. Her performance was so good that the producers gave her a regular role.
She also played Teal in Hyperdrive. This role earned her a British Comedy Award nomination. Miranda also had small roles in shows like Absolutely Fabulous and The Vicar of Dibley.
Miranda is most famous for her show Miranda. She wrote and starred in this show. It first aired on November 9, 2009. The show was based on her own life experiences. It featured other actors like Sarah Hadland and Tom Ellis.
Critics really liked Miranda. Miranda won an award for her comedy performance in the first series. The show was so popular that new series were made in 2010 and 2012. In 2014, Miranda announced that the show would end after two final episodes.
Miranda has also been a guest on other TV shows. She hosted Have I Got News for You several times. She also appeared on Big Fat Quiz 2011 and Room 101. In 2011, she was on Bear Grylls' Wild Weekend. She even climbed an Alp with Bear Grylls!
From 2012 to 2015, Miranda played "Chummy" in the drama Call the Midwife. In 2012, she helped host parts of the Diamond Jubilee Concert. This event celebrated 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
Film Roles
Miranda has also acted in several films. She had a small part in The Infidel. She also appeared in World of Wrestling as a wrestler called "Klondyke Kate". In 2007, she was a loan officer in the comedy film Magicians.
In 2015, she co-starred in the comedy film Spy. She played Nancy B. Artingstall alongside other big stars. In 2020, Miranda played Miss Bates in the movie Emma.. This film was based on a famous book by Jane Austen.
Radio Work
Miranda's show Miranda Hart's Joke Shop was first on BBC Radio 2 in 2008. This radio show later became the TV series Miranda. She has also hosted other comedy specials on the radio.
Live Performances
Miranda often performs character-based comedy instead of traditional stand-up. She has written her own shows for the Edinburgh Fringe festival. These include Miranda Hart – Throbs and Miranda Hart's House Party.
In 2012, she performed at the Diamond Jubilee concert. This was held outside Buckingham Palace. In 2014, Miranda went on her first big tour called My, What I Call, Live Show. She performed in large venues across the UK and Ireland.
Charity Work
Miranda has done a lot of work for charity. In 2007, she was on Comic Relief does Fame Academy. In 2009, she appeared in a sketch for Red Nose Day 2009.
In 2010, she and other TV stars cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End. They raised over £1 million for Sport Relief. She was also a judge on Let's Dance for Comic Relief in 2010 and 2011.
For Red Nose Day 2011, a special mini-episode of Miranda was shown. She also won a Celebrity MasterChef special for Red Nose Day in 2011. Miranda co-hosted Sport Relief 2012 and danced to ABBA's "Dancing Queen".
Stage Acting
In 2017, it was announced that Miranda would star as Miss Hannigan. This was in the West End musical production of Annie.
Books Written
Miranda released her first book, Is It Just Me?, in October 2012. It was full of stories and advice in her unique style. Her second book, Peggy and Me, came out in October 2016.
The Best of Miranda, a collection of scripts from her TV show, was published in 2014. In 2017, she released Miranda Hart's Daily Dose of Such Fun! for Comic Relief. She also published a children's book called The Girl with the Lost Smile in 2017. Her memoir, I Haven't Been Entirely Honest with You, was released in October 2024.
Personal Life
When she was younger, Miranda tried out for the Queens Park Rangers women's football team. She shared this funny fact on the show Would I Lie to You.
Miranda is a Christian. She lives in Hammersmith, West London. In October 2024, she shared in her book and on The One Show that she recently got married.
Health Journey
In August 2024, Miranda shared that she had been unwell for three years. In her memoir, she explained that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. This led to her having ME/CFS, which meant she was often stuck at home or in bed.
She believes her symptoms started around age 14 or 15 from a tick bite. Miranda calls her condition "ME caused by Lyme disease." She says it has affected her immune system. She has found ways to live well with her condition. She shared 10 tips that help her live a joyful and meaningful life.
