Morissen (called Murissen in the local Romansh language) was once a small town, known as a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Graubünden, which is like a state or region.

On January 1, 2013, Morissen joined with several other nearby towns. These towns were Cumbel, Degen, Lumbrein, Suraua, Vignogn, Vella, and Vrin. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Lumnezia.

History of Morissen

Morissen is a very old place! It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 1210. At that time, its name was written as Mureizens.

Morissen's Coat of Arms

The coat of arms for Morissen is red and features three golden scallop shells. These shells are a special symbol. They represent Saint James the Elder, who is the patron saint of the village church. A patron saint is like a special protector or guardian for a place.
