Mustafizur Rahman (born 6 September 1995) is a famous Bangladeshi international cricketer. He is a left-arm fast-medium bowler. He is well-known for his special "slower cutters." These are balls that move away from the batter in a tricky way. People often call him "The Fizz" because of his exciting bowling style.
Mustafizur started playing for the Bangladesh national team in 2015. He quickly became a star in shorter cricket games. One of his biggest achievements was in his first series against India in 2015. He took 11 wickets in his first two ODI matches. This was a record and helped Bangladesh win the series against India. He has played in many big tournaments like the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
In club cricket, Mustafizur joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. He helped them win their first IPL title. He was one of the top wicket-takers that season. He has also played for other IPL teams like Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super Kings. He is the only international player to win the "Emerging Player Award" in the 2016 IPL. He has been named in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year three times (2015, 2018, 2021). He was also in the ICC Men's T20I Team of the Year once (2021).

Early Cricket Journey
In 2012, Mustafizur went to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. He tried out for a special camp for fast bowlers. Before that, talent scouts noticed him in an Under-17 tournament in Satkhira. He joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board's program for fast bowling.
Soon, he was chosen for the Bangladesh Under-19 team. He played in the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the UAE. He took eight wickets in that tournament. Mustafizur began playing First-class cricket and List-A cricket in 2014. He played for Khulna Division and Abahani Limited. He was also picked to play for Bangladesh A in a tour to the West Indies.
International Career Highlights
Starting Strong
Mustafizur's international career began on 24 April 2015. He played in a Twenty20 match against Pakistan. In that game, he took the wickets of two experienced Pakistani batsmen, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez.
In June 2015, India visited Bangladesh for a Test match and three One Day Internationals. Mustafizur was chosen for the ODI team. In his very first ODI, he showed his amazing talent. He took five wickets against the strong Indian batting team. Bangladesh won that match. Mustafizur became only the tenth bowler in ODI history to take five wickets in his first game.
In the second ODI, Mustafizur took another six wickets. This made him the bowler with the most wickets after two ODIs ever. He took 13 wickets in the three-match series, which was a historic achievement.
The next month, Mustafizur helped Bangladesh win a series against South Africa. He took 5 wickets in three ODIs. He also made his Test debut in the same series, taking 4 wickets.
Dealing with Injuries
In November 2015, Zimbabwe played in Bangladesh. Mustafizur played a key role in the ODI matches, taking 8 wickets. He was named in the ICC World ODI XI for his great performance in 2015. He also got his third five-wicket haul in the last game.
In January 2016, Mustafizur hurt his shoulder while bowling against Zimbabwe. This was the first time he had to miss games since his debut. He also missed some matches during the 2016 Asia Cup due to a side strain.
He played in the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India. He became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take five wickets in a T20 World Cup match. He took five wickets for 22 runs against New Zealand. He took 9 wickets in total in that tournament. He was even named the 12th man in the 'Team of the Tournament'.
Mustafizur faced more injury issues when Bangladesh toured New Zealand in late 2016. He played his first Test match since 2015 against Sri Lanka in March 2017. He took eight wickets in that series. In April 2018, he received a central contract from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). However, he missed a T20I series against Afghanistan in May 2018 due to a toe injury.
Recent Years
In April 2019, Mustafizur was chosen for Bangladesh's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. On 5 July 2019, he took his 100th wicket in ODIs against Pakistan. He was Bangladesh's top wicket-taker in the tournament, with 20 wickets in eight matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) called him the "rising star" of the team after the World Cup.
In September 2021, he was part of Bangladesh's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He also played in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in May 2024.
On 12 January 2025, he was named in Bangladesh's team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. In May 2025, he was selected for Bangladesh's tour to the United Arab Emirates. On 17 May 2025, he made history in the first T20I. He became the first player to bowl 300 "dot balls" (balls where no runs are scored) in the final overs (16-20) of T20I cricket.
Playing for Clubs
Bangladesh Premier League
Mustafizur's first professional Twenty20 experience outside international cricket was in the Bangladesh Premier League. He played for Dhaka Dynamites in 2015. He took 14 wickets in 10 matches. Later, he played for Rajshahi Kings and Rangpur Rangers. In 2022, he joined Comilla Victorians. He was a top player for them.
He was chosen to play for Dhaka Capitals in the 2024-25 Bangladesh Premier League. On 20 January, he became only the fourth bowler to reach 100 BPL wickets.
Indian Premier League
In February 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked Mustafizur in the 2016 IPL auction. He took 17 wickets in 16 matches. His team won the title that year. He was named the "Emerging Player of the Tournament." He was the first international player to win this award.
He was kept by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2017 IPL season. In January 2018, Mumbai Indians bought him. In February 2021, Rajasthan Royals bought him. In February 2022, Delhi Capitals bought him. He played 8 matches for Delhi Capitals and took 8 wickets. He also played for Chennai Super Kings in 2024.
Delhi Capitals have included Mustafizur Rahman in their team for the 2025 IPL season.
Other Leagues
In March 2016, the English team Sussex signed Mustafizur for the T20 Blast competition. He took four wickets in his first match against Essex. After another match, he had shoulder surgery, which kept him out for six months.
Mustafizur was also chosen by Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. However, he could not play due to his shoulder injury.
How He Bowls
Mustafizur became successful early in his career by bowling "off cutters." This is a type of ball that moves away from a right-handed batter after hitting the pitch. Mustafizur said he first learned this technique when a teammate, Anamul Haque, asked him to bowl a slower ball. Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh said that Mustafizur's slower balls are very hard to predict.
About His Life
Mustafizur grew up in a small town called Satkhira in Khulna, Bangladesh. He is the youngest of six children. His father loves cricket. Mustafizur became interested in cricket when he started practicing with his brother, Mokhlesur Rahman. They would travel about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from home every morning to play. This sometimes made him miss school.
Before he became a bowler, Mustafizur played as a batsman with a tennis ball. He says his idol is the Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir.
On 15 March 2019, Mustafizur and other members of the Bangladesh cricket team were almost at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand. A terrible event happened there. All the team members were very affected by it. Mustafizur got married on 22 March. His brother hoped that getting married would help him feel better after what he saw.
