The Navajo Transit System (NTS) is a public bus service. It helps people travel around the Navajo Nation. This area covers parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The NTS currently runs 17 different bus routes. It serves 41 of the 110 Navajo Chapter communities.

What is the Navajo Transit System?

The NTS is a part of the Navajo Nation Government. It is managed by their Division of Transportation. The NTS gets money from different places. These include the Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah Departments of Transportation. It also gets funding from the Federal Transit Administration. This helps keep the buses running.

Important Events for the NTS

The NTS has faced some challenges over the years. In 2017, some of its federal funding was paused. This happened because the system did not fully follow government rules.

In 2018, the NTS started an exciting new partnership. They teamed up with the Farmington Red Apple Transit system. This partnership lets riders switch between the two bus systems for free. You can do this in Kirtland, NM and Farmington, NM.

The NTS also had to stop service during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This pause started on March 18, 2020. Buses did not start running again until June 7, 2021. Even then, only a few routes began operating again. These were routes 3, 5, 9, and 14.

Bus Routes

The NTS operates many different routes. These routes connect communities across the Navajo Nation. Here are the routes they currently offer:
