After the highway was moved, the city started calling this area the "Knowledge District." They want to attract new technology and research companies here. It's important to know that the Jewelry District is not one of Providence's 25 official neighborhoods. Similarly, the Hospital District, which is part of Upper South Providence, is also not an official neighborhood.
The oldest and most crowded neighborhoods are usually found close to Downtown. Other old neighborhoods are near the Woonasquatucket River.
