Nevena Ivanović (born 15 June 1994), also known by her maiden name Božović, is a popular Serbian singer and songwriter. She first started singing on a big stage when she was just 13 years old.
Nevena represented Serbia at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with her song "Piši mi" (Write Me), where she came in third place. Later, in 2012, she became very well known as the runner-up in a TV singing competition called Prvi glas Srbije (The First Voice of Serbia).
The next year, Nevena joined two other singers, Mirna Radulović and Sara Jovanović, to form a girl group called Moje 3. They sang for Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with their song "Ljubav je svuda" (Love Is All Around). They didn't make it to the final round that year. Nevena made history as the first artist to perform in both the Junior Eurovision and the main Eurovision Song Contests! She returned to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 as a solo artist with her song "Kruna" (Crown), finishing 18th.

About Nevena's Life and Music
Early Life and School
Nevena was born in Kosovska Mitrovica, which was part of FR Yugoslavia at the time. She went to school there. Her mom, Ružica, is a science professor, and her dad, Zoran, used to play basketball. Nevena once shared that her older sister, Jelena, was her biggest role model. Nevena even skipped a grade in school so she could study with her sister!
She loved music from a young age. Nevena studied music at the University of Arts in Belgrade. In 2019, she finished her special studies in solfeggio, which is about understanding music theory.
Starting Her Music Career
Before her big break, Nevena sang in many youth music festivals. She won awards at festivals like "Cvrkuti sa Ibra" with her song "Ti nisi moj broj" (You Are Not My Number), "Čarolija", "Svetosavski festival u Zrenjaninu", and "Dečji festival u Kruševcu".
In 2007, Nevena took part in Serbia's national singing competition to choose their representative for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She sang "Piši mi" (Write Me), a slow song with lyrics and music she wrote herself. She won the competition, chosen by both the judges and the public, and went on to represent Serbia in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007
On 8 December 2007, Nevena performed at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She finished in third place with 120 points. This was Serbia's best result ever in that contest! Her performance included two ballerinas dancing in the background. Serbia, along with Russia, was one of the only countries to receive points from every other country that year.
Prvi glas Srbije (The Voice of Serbia)
In 2012, Nevena joined Prvi glas Srbije, which is like the Serbian version of The Voice. After three months of live shows, tough singing battles, and challenges, Nevena made it to the final round. She finished in second place, right after Mirna Radulović.
Eurovision Song Contest 2013
In 2013, Nevena teamed up with two other singers from Prvi Glas, Mirna Radulović and Sara Jovanović. They entered a competition called Beosong 2013 with their song "Ljubav je Svuda" (Love Is All Around). The trio won the competition with more than 25,000 votes!
They then went on to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. There, they performed as a new group called Moje 3. They sang in the first semi-final but finished eleventh, just missing out on the final by six points. The group also won an award called the Barbara Dex Award that year, which is given for the most unique outfit.
Her Solo Music Career Takes Off
After Eurovision 2013, Nevena started focusing on her solo music. On 15 July, she released her new song "Pogledaj me" (Look At Me), which was written by Aleksandra Kovač. In December, she sang another new song, "Znam da noćas gubim te" (I Know I'm Losing You Tonight), on a TV talk show. The music video for this song was filmed in Kopaonik and came out in February 2014. This was the first music video on her official YouTube channel.
She also performed at a festival called "Proleće u Beogradu" (Spring in Belgrade) with her song "Tačka" (Dot). After that, she released "Bal" (Ball), a song written by Aleksandra Milutinović. The music video for "Bal" featured famous Serbian actor Miloš Biković and was filmed at Ada Bojana.
In May 2015, Nevena released a new song called "Trebam tebe" (I Need You) with an official video. This video was filmed at Vila Danica in Bela Crkva, Banat. Nevena said this song was very personal to her, saying This is it, this is me.
Eurovision Jury and Opening for Indila
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Nevena was one of the five people on the Serbian jury panel. They helped decide which countries would get points from Serbia.
On 26 May 2015, Nevena, along with Sara Jovanović and the group Zemlja gruva, performed as the opening act for a concert by French singer Indila. The concert was held in Štark Arena in Belgrade.
Building Her Career and Slavianski Bazaar
Nevena continued to work with Aleksandra Milutinović, who helped write the music and lyrics for her new song "Čujem da dolaziš u grad" (I Hear You're Coming to Town). This song was released just before the end of 2015.
She performed again at the "Proleće u Beogradu" festival with her song "Moja baka" (My Grandmother). Then, she released her next song, "Siesta," working with Goran Kovačić and Ljiljana Jorgovanović for the first time. Darko Dimitrov, who worked on "Bal," became a regular part of her music team. "Siesta" was released at the end of 2016.
In June 2017, while finishing her master's degree, Nevena performed at "Proleće u Beogradu" for the third time with her song "Đuskaj" (Dance). In July 2017, she competed at the famous Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk festival in Vitebsk, Belarus. This festival brings together artists from Eastern Europe to celebrate Slavic music. Nevena scored the highest points on the first day of the final round (76) and ended up in third place. She sang a powerful version of Christina Aguilera’s "Hurt."
New Music and Awards
On 11 June 2017, Nevena released her new song "Jasno mi je" (It's Clear to Me) with her new music company, Magic Records.
This song became a big hit! At the very first 2019 Music Awards Ceremony, she won the award for the best Electropop song of the year. She continued working with Magic Records and released another song called "Moja molitva" (My Prayer), which later got an English version called "What I'm Looking For."
Beovizija and Eurovision Song Contest 2019
Before competing in Beovizija, Nevena released a music video for her song "Prazni snovi" (Empty Dreams), which was used in the movie Psi umiru sami.
She then competed in Beovizija 2019 with her song "Kruna" (Crown). She won her semi-final and then went on to win the whole competition! This meant she would represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. She received the most points from the jury and was third in the public vote.

On 11 April 2019, an acoustic (unplugged) version of "Kruna" was released. Her backing vocalists for Eurovision were Ivana Vladović, Olga Popović, Dušan Alagić, and Mladen Lukić, all experienced musicians. Less than two weeks before her semi-final, Nevena also released an English version of the song called "Eternal Light." She performed this version with the Radio Television of Serbia Symphony Orchestra, but she said it was just for promotion.
At the Eurovision Song Contest, "Kruna" finished in 18th place overall with 89 points.
Singer of the Year and Concerts
After returning from Eurovision, Nevena won another award! Naxi radio, a big radio station in the Balkan region, held a poll for "Best female singer of the Year." Nevena won based on listener votes, becoming the youngest singer ever to receive this award. She thanked her fans on social media.
Her last song of 2019, "Sanjam" (I Dream), was released in October. It quickly got over 100,000 views on YouTube. Like "Kruna," Nevena wrote both the lyrics and music for "Sanjam."
She ended the year with a 90-minute performance, opening for the famous Balkan star Zdravko Čolić on 31 December in Budva.
Recent Music (2020–Present)
On 27 February 2020, Nevena released another slow song she wrote herself, called "Nestajem s vetrom" (I Disappear With the Wind). She performed this new song live on Naxi Radio that same day. On 8 June, she sang it on the TV show "Jutro na Prvoj." This song won her another Naxi radio award, this time for "Best music collaboration." She thanked her fans and praised Dušan Alagić for their great teamwork.
In the middle of 2020, on 15 July, Nevena appeared on the show "Zvezde pevaju zvezde xtra." She performed her own version of the song "Produži dalje" (Carry On) by Zdravko Čolić.
After a break from releasing new songs, Nevena released her first song of 2021 on 20 March, called "Ljubi" (Kiss). The music was written by Milenko Škarić and Teodora Kunić, who also wrote the lyrics.
Just a few days after Nevena announced she was expecting a baby, she released the song "Ne čuješ me" (You Don't Hear Me). She wrote the music for this song herself, with Vladimir Danilović writing the lyrics and Darko Dimitrov arranging the music. Nevena explained that Disco music from the 80s is my biggest inspiration lately because it was one of the best music periods. I also like how women looked in the 80s. She also mentioned that her new music album would be released by the end of the year.
Nevena's Personal Life
When Nevena was a child, she played basketball. She had to choose between becoming a professional basketball player or a singer and pianist. She chose to become a singer. She has been a vegetarian since she was 13 years old.
On 20 April 2019, Nevena married Nikola Ivanović, a pilot from Montenegro. Their wedding took place in Budva, where Nikola is from. The media in Montenegro called their wedding the Wedding of the Year.
After many rumors, Nevena announced on 29 June 2021 that she was pregnant. She gave birth to her daughter, Anka, on 23 August.
