Nicholas Peter Andrew Grimshaw (born 14 August 1984), known as "Grimmy", is an English radio and television presenter, and an author. He became famous for hosting many shows on BBC Radio 1. He also presented TV shows for Channel 4, like T4 and The Album Chart Show. In 2015, he was a judge on The X Factor.

Early Life and Beginnings
Nick Grimshaw was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England, and grew up there. He went to the University of Liverpool from 2002 to 2005. There, he studied Communication and Media. While at university, he was also part of the student radio station, ICON Radio. This was where he first started his career in broadcasting.

Nick Grimshaw has had a long and exciting career in both radio and television. He is known for his friendly personality and for connecting with young audiences.
Radio Career Highlights
Grimshaw joined BBC Radio 1 in September 2007. He started by co-hosting a youth show called Switch with his friend and fellow DJ, Annie Mac. He hosted this show by himself for nine months.
From October 2008 to May 2009, Grimshaw hosted Radio 1's Weekend Breakfast Show. Then, on 1 June 2009, he moved to the 10 PM to midnight slot. He often joked about how long he would stay in this role. He also had a fun segment called "1000 Albums Everyone Says You Should Listen To".
On 11 July 2012, it was announced that Grimshaw would take over the Radio 1 Breakfast show. This was a very big role, as he replaced the long-time host Chris Moyles. His first breakfast show was on 24 September 2012.
In November 2012, Grimshaw made headlines for comments about Robbie Williams's song "Candy". He also joked about Rihanna cancelling an interview. These moments showed his playful and sometimes cheeky style.
His Breakfast Show audience numbers changed over time. In February 2014, his show gained over 700,000 listeners, reaching 6.3 million weekly. The BBC said this was part of their plan to attract younger listeners.
In March 2014, he completed a twelve-hour bicycle ride for Sport Relief. This event helped raise over £115,000 for charity. He also took part in the Clash of the Titans event later that year.
In July 2017, the BBC shared that Grimshaw's salary was between £350,000 and £399,999. In October 2017, his Breakfast Show had 4.93 million listeners. The BBC still said it was important for young people.
On 31 May 2018, it was announced that Grimshaw would leave the breakfast show. He swapped shows with Greg James, moving to the 4-7 PM drivetime slot. On 30 June 2021, Grimshaw announced he would leave Radio 1 after 14 years. His last show was on 12 August 2021.
On 9 January 2025, the BBC announced that Grimshaw would become the new presenter of BBC Radio 6 Music's breakfast show. He had already covered for the show since August 2024.
Television Appearances
Grimshaw's TV career began on E4, where he hosted daily shows. In September 2007, he moved to Channel 4. He co-hosted Freshly Squeezed with Alexa Chung and later Jameela Jamil. They also hosted award shows and covered music events for Channel 4.
Grimshaw and Annie Mac also hosted the music show Sound for BBC Two. He presented the first ever BBC Switch Awards show with Kimberley Walsh of Girls Aloud on BBC One.
In summer 2011, Grimshaw hosted a live show for Channel 4 called New Look Style the Nation. In this show, fashion designers competed for a job. In 2012, he co-presented the iTunes Festival with Annie Mac.
On 30 April 2013, he started presenting the BBC Three panel show, Sweat the Small Stuff. He also hosted a one-off panel show on Channel 4 called That Music Show. In 2013, he appeared in cameo roles in popular soap operas like EastEnders and Coronation Street. He also narrated Hotel of Mum and Dad for BBC Three.
In 2014, Grimshaw presented The Brits Are Coming, which announced nominees for the 2014 Brit Awards. Since 2014, he has been a regular guest co-presenter on The One Show.
On 16 June 2015, Grimshaw joined The X Factor as a judge for its twelfth series. He mentored the "Boys" category. He guided Ché Chesterman to the final, where he finished in third place. On 19 February 2016, Grimshaw announced he would not return to the show.
Since June 2019, he has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with his niece Liv. He has also been part of the Stand Up to Cancer specials. In spring 2021, Grimshaw was a contestant on The Great British Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer.
Art and Other Projects
Grimshaw is interested in contemporary art and set design. In 2016, he sold one of his paintings for a secret charity auction. He is also an ambassador for the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2017, he designed a Christmas tree to celebrate the Academy's 250th anniversary. He also interned with stage designer Es Devlin in 2017, learning about live music production.
Grimshaw launched and judged Column Idol 2014. This was a competition to find new writing talent, set up by Media Trust and The Sun newspaper.
He made a cameo appearance as himself in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016). Grimshaw's first autobiography, Soft Lad, was published on 27 October 2022. In October 2021, he was featured in the BBC series Walking With..., walking in Northumberland. Since June 2022, Grimshaw has hosted a weekly podcast called "Dish" with Waitrose, alongside chef Angela Hartnett.
