Norristown Farm Park is a large park in Pennsylvania, covering about 690 acres (about 2.8 square kilometers). It's located in Montgomery County, near the town of Norristown. This park is special because it's also a working farm!

The park is managed by the state of Pennsylvania along with the Montgomery County Department of Parks. You can find many old farm buildings and homes from the colonial era here. It's a great place for outdoor activities like hiking, bicycling, fishing, and picnicking. In the winter, you can even go cross-country skiing. During the summer, the park often hosts fun musical concerts. A stream called Stony Creek flows right through the park, adding to its natural beauty.

Park History: From William Penn to Today

Norristown Farm Park has a long and interesting history. It was once part of a huge piece of land, about 7,000 acres (28 square kilometers), called "Williamstadt." This land originally belonged to William Penn, who founded Pennsylvania.

Later, William Penn's son, William Penn, Jr., transferred the property to Isaac Norris. Norristown, the nearby town, is actually named after him! Over time, Norris's family sold parts of this land to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In the 1870s, a place called Norristown State Hospital was built on some of this land. It was a hospital that helped people with mental health challenges. Norristown Farm Park was created on the state-owned land that surrounds this hospital. The park officially opened in 1995, giving people a wonderful natural space to enjoy.
