Oberallgäu is a beautiful rural district located in the southwest of Bavaria, a large state in Germany. It's part of a region called Swabia. Imagine a place with rolling hills, green valleys, and stunning mountains – that's Oberallgäu!

The district's capital city is Sonthofen. Even though the city of Kempten is right in the middle of Oberallgäu, it's a separate city and not part of the district itself. Oberallgäu shares its borders with other districts like Unterallgäu, Ostallgäu, and Lindau (district). It also touches the Ravensburg district in the nearby state of Baden-Württemberg. To the south, Oberallgäu meets the countries of Austria, specifically the states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg.

The district covers an area of about 1,528 square kilometers. That's quite a bit of land! Around 147,400 people lived here in the year 2000. This means there are about 96 people living in each square kilometer, making it a fairly peaceful and open area.
