In 2016, developers at XDA learned that OnePlus was working to combine both OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. This would make them into one main operating system.

Keeping Your Information Safe

On October 10, 2017, a security expert found that a part of OxygenOS called "DeviceManagerService" was collecting some information. This information was sent back to OnePlus servers. The data included things like the phone's serial number and how long apps were used.

OnePlus later explained that this data was used to make the system better. They said the information was not shared with other companies. They also said that users could turn off this data collection in their phone settings. OnePlus reviewed how they collected data and stopped collecting some types of information.

How OxygenOS Started

In 2014, OnePlus wanted their phone software to be simple and easy to customize. They held a contest to find a name for their new software.

On January 30, 2015, OnePlus officially announced the names: OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. The winner of the contest was a person named @Midifire from Belgium. They got to visit the OnePlus headquarters in Shenzhen, China, and meet the team.
