Roy Frank "RJ" Mitte III (born August 21, 1992) is an American actor and producer. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi. When he was three years old, RJ was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. This is a condition that affects movement and muscle coordination.
In 2006, he moved to Hollywood. He wanted to find acting jobs where his disability could help teach people. After appearing in some TV shows, he got a big role. He played Walter White Jr. on the TV series Breaking Bad from 2008 to 2013.
RJ Mitte has also starred in other TV shows. These include Switched at Birth (2014) and The Guardians of Justice (2022). He has acted in movies like Who's Driving Doug and Triumph. He also helped produce Triumph.
Mitte is a strong supporter for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. He speaks for actors with disabilities through the Screen Actors Guild. He is also an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy. In 2013, he received the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award.

RJ Mitte's Early Life
RJ Mitte was born in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born early by emergency caesarean section. He was not breathing at birth, which caused some permanent brain damage. A few weeks later, he was adopted by Michael Scott Mitte and Dyna Mitte. They later separated.
When RJ was three, doctors diagnosed him with cerebral palsy. For six months, his legs were in casts to help straighten his feet. As a child, he used leg braces and crutches to help him walk. But as he grew stronger through sports, he no longer needed these devices by his teenage years.
In 2006, RJ moved to Los Angeles with his family. His younger sister, Lacianne Carriere, had an acting offer there. After his parents separated, his mother raised him. When his mother became paralyzed, RJ took on financial responsibility for his family. This included his mother and his sister.
RJ Mitte's Acting Career
RJ Mitte started his acting journey with small roles. He appeared as an extra in the Disney series Hannah Montana. This made him interested in films. He then decided to take acting lessons. Soon after, he was offered the role of Walter White Jr. in the AMC series Breaking Bad. His character also had cerebral palsy.
Awards and Recognition
In 2013, RJ Mitte received the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award. This was for his role as Walter White Jr. on Breaking Bad. He also gave the RJ Mitte Diversity Award to deaf actor Ryan Lane. The Screen Actors Guild chose RJ Mitte to be a spokesman for actors with disabilities. He represents a group that helps artists with disabilities find work.
Other Projects
In 2011, RJ Mitte starred in a short horror film called Stump. That same year, he was an executive producer for a documentary. It was called Vanished: The Tara Calico Story. This film was about the disappearance of Tara Calico. In 2012, Mitte was cast in the thriller film House of Last Things.
In 2013, he appeared in a music video for the song "Dead Bite" by Hollywood Undead. In January 2014, he started a recurring role on the ABC Family show Switched at Birth. He played Campbell, a student who used a wheelchair after a snowboarding accident. RJ Mitte also modeled for a Gap ad campaign in spring 2014.
In February/March 2015, RJ Mitte was on the cover of Neurology Now magazine. The magazine shared his life story and his thoughts on cerebral palsy. He also talked about bullying and his acting career. In 2015, he became a celebrity ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy.
In June 2015, Mitte walked the catwalk for fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. In November 2015, he was announced as a presenter for British Channel 4's coverage of the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympics. He also appeared in the music video for "If I Get High" by Nothing but Thieves in 2016.
