Riedholz is a town, also called a municipality, located in the Lebern district. It is part of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. In 2011, another town called Niederwil joined with Riedholz to form a larger municipality.

A Look at Riedholz's Past

Riedholz was first written about in history books in the year 1367. Back then, it was known as im Rietholz. The town of Niederwil, which later became part of Riedholz, was first mentioned even earlier, in 1292. It was called Lomolzwile at that time.

Where is Riedholz?

Riedholz is located in the Lebern district. It sits between a moraine (a hill made of rocks and dirt left by a glacier) and the Aare river. The municipality includes the main villages of Riedholz and Niederwil. You can also find smaller groups of houses, called hamlets, and single buildings spread out. One interesting spot is Attisholz, which has had a special warm bath since the 1400s!

After Niederwil joined Riedholz, the new municipality became larger. It now covers about 7.2 square kilometers (about 2.8 square miles). A big part of this land, about 43.6%, is used for farming. Forests cover another large section, about 39% of the area.
