Rockwall County is a county in the state of Texas, USA. It is the smallest county in Texas, covering about 149 square miles (390 square kilometers). In 2020, about 107,819 people lived there.
The main city and county seat is Rockwall. Both the county and the city get their name from a natural rock formation that looks like a wall hidden underground.
Rockwall County is part of the larger Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area, known as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It has been one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. It is also known as one of the wealthiest counties in Texas based on how much money families earn.
Some of the cities and towns in Rockwall County include Rockwall, Heath, Royse City, Fate, McLendon-Chisholm, Mobile City, and part of Rowlett.

History
Rockwall County was created in 1873. It was formed from parts of Kaufman County. People living in the area found it hard to get to the county seat in Kaufman. So, they decided to form their own county.
The county was named after its main city, Rockwall. The area is also famous for a large, natural rock wall formation. This "great rock wall" is not visible to the public today.
Geography
Rockwall County covers about 149 square miles. Most of this area, about 127 square miles, is land. The remaining 22 square miles, or 15%, is covered by water. It is the smallest county in Texas by land area.

In 2000, there were 43,080 people living in Rockwall County. The population density was about 334 people per square mile. Most residents were White (89.17%), with smaller groups of Black or African American (3.24%), Native American (0.40%), and Asian (1.32%) people. About 11.07% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
By the 2020 census, the population grew to 107,819. The makeup of the population changed, with about 65.11% non-Hispanic White people. African Americans made up 7.59%, Native Americans 0.44%, and Asians 3.07%. The number of people who are Hispanic or Latino increased to 19.07% of the population.
In 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that Rockwall County's population reached 131,307. At that time, about 21.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino. Non-Hispanic White people made up about 62.1%, and non-Hispanic Black people were about 9.9%.
Education
Schools in Rockwall County are part of these school districts:
- Rockwall Independent School District (a small part is in Kaufman County)
- Royse City Independent School District (small parts are in Collin and Hunt counties)
Collin College also serves all of Rockwall County. This means students from Rockwall County can attend Collin College.
