A Look at Tannay's Past
Tannay was first mentioned in records in 1390. It was called Taney back then. Some people think it might be even older than the nearby town of Coppet, which was first written about in 1294.
During the Middle Ages, Tannay was part of the Coppet area, which was ruled by a powerful family. In 1536, the region became part of Canton of Bern. Even then, the Coppet family still had some power over villages like Tannay.
Important Buildings and People
Tannay Castle was built in 1649. It's an important historical building in the town. In the 1600s, many French Huguenots (Protestants who faced unfair treatment) came to Tannay. They were looking for a safe place to live.
One family, the Delors, came from these refugees. In the 1800s, their descendants started a very successful watch factory. This shows how new people can bring new skills and ideas to a place!
Tannay's Growth and Changes
In 1858, a train station opened in Tannay. This connected the town to bigger cities like Geneva and Lausanne. For a long time, until about 1950, Tannay was mostly a farming village. People grew crops and raised animals.
But by the early 2000s, Tannay had changed a lot. It became a "bedroom community" for Geneva. This means many people who work in Geneva live in Tannay and travel to work each day.
