Stephanie Young Hwang (born August 1, 1989), known as Tiffany or Tiffany Young, is an American singer and songwriter. She is of Korean descent. Tiffany grew up in California. When she was 15, a South Korean entertainment company called SM Entertainment discovered her. She then moved to South Korea to train.

After two years of training, Tiffany became a member of the girl group Girls' Generation in August 2007. This group became one of the most popular and best-selling music groups in South Korea and around the world. Later, she also joined a smaller group called Girls' Generation-TTS.

In 2016, Tiffany released her first solo music album, called I Just Wanna Dance. She was the second member of Girls' Generation to release solo music. Even though she is still part of Girls' Generation, she left SM Entertainment in October 2017. She then joined Paradigm Talent Agency and signed with Transparent Arts. She released another album, Lips on Lips, in 2019.

Life and Music Journey

Growing Up and Starting Out (1989–2012)

Tiffany Young was born Stephanie Young Hwang on August 1, 1989, in San Francisco, USA. She grew up in Diamond Bar, California. Her family included her father, an older sister, and an older brother. Her mother passed away when Tiffany was 12 years old.

Tiffany was inspired by a K-pop artist named BoA. When she was 15, her brother encouraged her to enter a singing contest. A representative from SM Entertainment saw her perform. She auditioned and was accepted as a trainee. A trainee is someone who trains to become a K-pop idol, learning to sing, dance, and perform. Tiffany moved to South Korea just three weeks later to begin her training.

She trained at SM Entertainment for almost four years. In August 2007, she officially joined the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. She chose the stage name Tiffany, which was the name her mother originally wanted to give her at birth. Early in her career, Tiffany also sang songs for other projects and movie soundtracks. She also hosted several TV shows.

In 2008, Tiffany had a vocal problem called vocal nodules, which affected her voice. She received medical help. The problem returned in 2009 and 2010, and she had to take short breaks from her activities.

New Groups and Solo Music (2012–2016)

In late 2011 and early 2012, Tiffany tried acting in a musical called Fame. She played Carmen Diaz, a student who works hard to become a star.

In April 2012, a smaller group from Girls' Generation was formed. It was called TTS, and it included Tiffany, Taeyeon, and Seohyun. Their first album, called Twinkle, was very popular. It was one of the best-selling albums in South Korea that year. The group later released two more albums: Holler (2014) and Dear Santa (2015).

In November 2013, Tiffany was a contestant on a TV show called Fashion King Korea. On the show, celebrities worked with top designers to create fashion. Tiffany and her designer finished in third place.

In 2015, Tiffany started working on her first solo album. She had been writing music since 2014 and found it exciting to share her own songs. She said that Taeyeon from Girls' Generation helped her a lot with the album. Tiffany and Taeyeon have been close friends since Tiffany first came to South Korea.

Her solo album, I Just Wanna Dance, was released in May 2016. This made her the second Girls' Generation member to release solo music. The album received good reviews. Billboard magazine said the album showed Tiffany's range as an artist. The album had a more American sound than typical K-pop. It was very popular, reaching high spots on music charts in both the US and South Korea. Billboard also named it one of the best K-pop albums of 2016. The main song, "I Just Wanna Dance," also did very well. In June 2016, she released another song called "Heartbreak Hotel." To celebrate her solo music, Tiffany held a series of small concerts called Weekend.

In August 2016, during a concert in Tokyo, Tiffany posted some photos on social media. The photos included images that caused upset in Korea because of their historical meaning, especially since it was during Korean Liberation Day. Tiffany quickly apologized for her actions, saying she did not know enough about history. Because of this, she left a TV show she was on called Sister's Slam Dunk.

In October 2016, Tiffany was featured on a song called "Don't Speak" by the group Far East Movement. The group said that working with Tiffany showed them how talented she is as a singer.

New Beginnings and Solo Career (2017–Present)

In June 2018, it was announced that she would start her music career in the United States with Paradigm Talent Agency. She signed with Transparent Arts as her new record label. Her first U.S. solo song was "Over My Skin."

Tiffany worked with the clothing brand H&M for their Autumn 2018 campaign. She released her second U.S. song, "Teach You," on September 28, 2018. In October 2018, Tiffany was the first female K-pop artist to walk the red carpet at the American Music Awards. She released a holiday song called "Peppermint" on November 30, 2018.

On January 9, 2019, Tiffany announced her next song, "Born Again." It was released on January 25 as the first song from her next album, Lips on Lips. The music video for "Born Again" was released on the same day. The main song from the album was released on February 14. Lips on Lips came out on February 22. Tiffany worked with other artists, like Babyface, on the songs.

Lips on Lips was very popular, appearing on Billboard's music charts. It also reached number eight on the Gaon Album Chart in South Korea and was certified Platinum. Tiffany promoted the album with her Lips on Lips Mini Showcase Tour, performing in eight cities across North America in March 2019. She won the Best Solo Breakout award at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She was the first female Korean artist to win this award.

Tiffany released a new song, "Magnetic Moon," on August 2, 2019. She also held concerts called Open Hearts Eve in Seoul and Bangkok. After that, she went on the Magnetic Moon Tour from October to November 2019, visiting eighteen cities in North America.

On February 16, 2021, Tiffany was chosen to play Roxie Hart in the South Korean version of the Broadway musical Chicago. She had to audition against many other actors to get the role. Tiffany said that she had always dreamed of being a musical actress and that Roxie was one of her top three dream roles.

On June 29, 2021, it was announced that Tiffany would make her acting debut in a TV series called Reborn Rich. She played a supporting role in the show.

In December 2022, Tiffany signed a new contract with Sublime. In February 2023, she held a fan meeting in Thailand called "Forever Wishing."

Helping Others

Tiffany is a strong supporter of the LGBT community. In 2018, she wrote a letter to the LGBTQ community for Gay Pride Month. She said she was inspired by their message and that the yearly pride parade shows how the world can become a better place. During Pride Month in 2021, Tiffany joined a group called Neon Milk in Seoul. They danced to Girls' Generation's 2007 song "Into the New World," which has become a protest song in South Korea. Neon Milk uses this song as their anthem every year for Pride. Tiffany has also spoken about her support for the community on TV news.
