Exploring Turners Hill Village
The heart of Turners Hill is its village green. This area is a busy spot with shops, the Crown pub, and the Free Church. These places make up the main gathering point for the community.
Village Churches
St Leonard's Anglican church stands on a ridge of the hill. It was built between 1895 and 1897. Later, in 1923, a tower and porches were added. The beautiful stained glass windows inside were all made by Charles Eamer Kempe.
The Free Church building was built in 1906. It replaced an older church that had been on the same spot since 1824.
Fun and Games
Turners Hill has two pubs, the Crown and the Red Lion. For sports, there's a large recreation ground. Here, you can play football, netball, five-a-side football, and tennis. The village also has its own cricket club with its own ground.
Learning and Community
The village has a Victorian primary school called Turners Hill Church of England Primary School. It has been made bigger recently and even has a wind turbine! After year six, students usually go to Imberhorne School.
A community center, called The Ark, has been built next to the recreation ground. It also includes facilities for the parish council and a village housing scheme.
Historic Homes
The northern part of the village has seen a lot of new homes built recently. However, the older parts of the village, especially Lion Lane, still look very historic. Many buildings here are from the 17th and 18th centuries. Some of these buildings are even listed, which means they are protected because of their special history. The village center, with its pubs and churches, is a special "conservation area." This helps to keep its historic look.
Sports and Activities
Football is a very popular sport in Turners Hill. There are two village football teams: Turners Hill and Turners Hill Reserves. People often play football for fun at the recreation ground, which villagers call "the rec" or "the ark." There's a friendly competition with the nearby village of Crawley Down. The rec also hosts events like the yearly village fair.
The village is also famous for being one of the toughest parts of the London to Brighton bike ride. It's almost as hard as Ditchling Beacon! This means the village can get very busy during the ride each year.
Important Places and Landmarks
Within the parish, there is a special area called Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), also known as Turners Hill. This used to be a quarry, where rocks were dug out. The old workings have left tall, vertical sections in the sandstone. This makes it a valuable place for scientists to study what the environment was like a long time ago.
Worth Abbey and Worth School are also located close to the village.

Twin Towns
In 1992, Turners Hill started a "Town Twinning" relationship with St Leger en Yvelines in the Île-de-France region of France. This means the two towns are like sister cities and have special friendly ties.
The Turners Hill Twinning Association is very active. They meet for social events every month and have an annual exchange visit. Residents from Turners Hill visit St Leger one year, and then residents from St Leger visit Turners Hill the next year.
