Ultimate Jet is a company that flies private jets. It is based in North Canton, Ohio, in the United States. The company used to be called Ultimate Jet Charters.
Ultimate Jet mostly offers private flights for people who want to rent a whole plane. They use planes like the Citation X and Embraer ERJ135. In the past, Ultimate Jet also had regular flights with a set schedule. These flights helped people travel for business from places like Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport. However, these scheduled flights stopped for a while in late 2020 and again in December 2021. This happened because the COVID-19 pandemic made it harder for people to travel for work.
History of Ultimate Jet
Ultimate Air Shuttle began flying in 2009. This was soon after two big airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, joined together. Ultimate Air Shuttle wanted to offer quick flights to important cities.
The airline first started with flights to New York City. Then, in 2010, they added flights to Chicago. By 2012, they were flying to Detroit and Washington, D.C.. However, the Detroit route stopped later that year. The Washington, D.C. route changed to Charlotte in 2013.
In May 2015, Ultimate Air Shuttle announced new seasonal flights. These flights went to popular vacation spots like Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. They also flew to Westhampton Beach, New York, and from Morristown, New Jersey. After a few months, the Westhampton Beach flights stopped because not enough people were using them.
The airline thought about flying to other cities too, such as Indianapolis, Memphis, and Nashville. In October 2015, Ultimate Jet started flying to Cleveland. They also said they would add flights to Chicago Executive Airport in 2016. Flights to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (Atlanta) and Nashville International Airport were also planned for the next year.
In May 2016, Ultimate Air Shuttle decided to move its flights from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport (LUK). This change allowed them to add more daily flights to Chicago-MDW and New York-MMU.
In January 2017, Ultimate Air Shuttle announced plans to start flights from Lunken to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Atlanta.
Ultimate Jetcharters, the main company, used to operate flights for other airlines. They flew for a company called OneJet until OneJet stopped flying in August 2018. Ultimate Jetcharters also flew for Taos Air in the winter of 2018–2019.
In mid-2020, Ultimate Air Shuttle stopped its regular scheduled flights. This was due to travel rules because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They briefly started flights again in the summer. But they stopped again from September until early 2021. This happened because not enough people were traveling for business. Flights started up again in the second half of 2021. However, the airline announced they would stop flights again from December 16, 2021, into 2022. This was still because the pandemic affected business travel.
In October 2023, Ultimate Air Shuttle filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This is a legal process that helps a company reorganize its money problems. The company plans to keep flying and operating during this process.
Where Ultimate Jet Flew
Ultimate Air Shuttle stopped all its regular scheduled flights on December 16, 2021. This was because of the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. They still continued to fly private chartered flights.
