The Ventadour River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into Robert Lake in the Nord-du-Québec region. This area is part of the large Eeyou Istchee James Bay municipality.
The river flows through two areas called Ventadour and Feuquières. The main activity here is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Tourism is also important, with people visiting for fun. There is a logging camp near Lake Ventadour, which helps with the forestry work.
A forest road, R1032, runs along the west side of the Ventadour River. This road helps people get around the area. The river's surface is usually frozen from early November until mid-May. It is generally safe to travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.
River Journey
The Ventadour River starts at Georges Lake. This lake is small, about 0.7 kilometres (0.43 mi) long, and sits high up at 433 metres (1,421 ft) above sea level. Georges Lake is one of the southernmost lakes in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay area.
From Georges Lake, the Ventadour River flows for about 33.5 kilometres (20.8 mi). Here is how its journey unfolds:
- It flows north for 2.2 kilometres (1.4 mi) through Quinn Lake.
- Then, it turns west for 0.9 kilometres (0.56 mi).
- It continues north for 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi), crossing Nairn Lake. A road bridge crosses the river here.
- It flows north again for 1.3 kilometres (0.81 mi) to another road bridge.
- The river then flows north for 16.6 kilometres (10.3 mi) through Lake Ventadour.
- Finally, it flows north for 10.1 kilometres (6.3 mi) until it reaches its mouth.
The Ventadour River ends by flowing into a bay on the south shore of Robert Lake. From Robert Lake, the water eventually makes its way into the Nottaway River. The Nottaway River then flows into James Bay, which is part of the larger Hudson Bay.

The Ventadour River is surrounded by many other lakes and rivers. Knowing these helps us understand its place in the larger water system.
