Vouziers facts for kids
Vouziers is a town in northern France, located in the Ardennes department. It's a place with interesting history and connections to famous people!
Vouziers is known as the burial place of Roland Garros, a brave pilot from World War I. You might know his name from the famous tennis tournament, the French Open, which is played at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
Another important person connected to Vouziers is Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. He was the first president of Czechoslovakia. He fought in Vouziers with a group called the Czechoslovak Legion. There's a monument in town to remember the legion, and the local high school is named after President Masaryk.
The town is also the birthplace of Jean Witkowski, a talented musician who was a cellist and a conductor.
Vouziers also became famous for a special event on August 11, 1999: a solar eclipse. Many people came to watch it! Because Vouziers is close to the border with Belgium, lots of Belgian cars visited, causing a bit of traffic jam that morning.

Where is Vouziers?
The Aisne River flows right through Vouziers. There is also a branch of the "canal des Ardennes" that runs alongside it.
The town is located in an interesting area. It sits between the Forest of Argonne, the pre-Ardennes hills, and the Champagne region. It's also close to the Ardennes Massif, which is a large area of dense woodland.
Vouziers is not far from several other important French towns. These include Charleville-Mézières, Sedan (which has the largest medieval castle in Europe!), Rocroi, and Reims (where French kings used to be crowned). It's also near Châlons-en-Champagne and Varennes-en-Argonne. The French king Louis XVI was arrested in Varennes during the French Revolution.
In 2016, two smaller towns, Terron-sur-Aisne and Vrizy, joined with Vouziers to become part of the larger commune.
