The Waldenburg District is one of five districts in the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland. Most people here speak German. This district is located south of Basel-Country, right next to the canton of Solothurn. The main town and capital of the district is Waldenburg. As of 30 June 2021, about 16,118 people live in the Waldenburg District. On average, about 150 people live in each square kilometer of land.

The Waldenburg District covers an area of about 104.93 square kilometers (40.51 square miles). A big part of this land, almost half (48.3%), is used for farming. This includes fields for crops and areas where animals graze.
Another large part, 44.1%, is covered by forests. These are important for nature and provide homes for many animals. About 7.3% of the district's land is built up with buildings and roads. A very small part (0.2%) is made up of rivers or lakes. The rest (0.1%) is land that cannot be used for farming or building.

Who Lives in Waldenburg?
As of June 2021, the Waldenburg District has a population of 16,118 people. About 13.3% of these people are foreign nationals living in the district.
Most people in Waldenburg speak German. In 2000, about 90.9% of the population spoke German. The next most common languages were Italian language (2.4%) and Albanian (1.8%).
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males (50.1%) and females (49.9%). Most residents (85.4%) were Swiss citizens. The rest (14.6%) were non-Swiss residents. Many people (about 30.4%) were born in the district and still lived there in 2000. Others were born in the same canton (27.1%) or elsewhere in Switzerland (25.1%). About 14.4% were born outside Switzerland.
The population changes over time. In 2008, there were more births than deaths among non-Swiss citizens, leading to an increase in that group. However, the number of Swiss citizens slightly decreased. Overall, the district's population growth rate was -0.1% in 2008.

In the 2007 federal election, people in Waldenburg District voted for different political parties. The most popular party was the SVP, which received 39.28% of the votes. The next most popular parties were the SP (20.27%), the FDP (14.58%), and the Green Party (13.65%). A total of 5,408 votes were cast in this election, meaning about half (50.0%) of the eligible voters participated.
Religion in Waldenburg
According to the 2000 census, people in Waldenburg District follow various religions:
- About 17.9% were Roman Catholic.
- A large number, 59.3%, belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.
- Smaller groups included members of an Orthodox church (1.15%) and the Christian Catholic Church (0.34%).
- About 3.31% belonged to other Christian churches.
- There were also people who were Jewish (0.05%) and Islamic (4.98%).
- A small number were Buddhist or Hindu.
- About 9.37% of the population said they did not belong to any church, or were agnostic or atheist.
Education in the District
Education is important in Waldenburg. About 38.9% of the people have finished non-mandatory upper secondary education. This is like high school or vocational training.
Additionally, 10.4% of the population has gone on to higher education. This means they have completed studies at a university or a Fachhochschule (a type of professional university). Most of these people were Swiss men (67.7%) or Swiss women (22.3%). A smaller number were non-Swiss men (6.9%) or non-Swiss women (3.1%).
