The year 2 BC was a time long ago. It was a common year starting on Thursday or Friday in the Julian calendar. People in ancient Rome named years differently. They called this year the Year of the Consulship of Augustus and Silvanus. This meant that Augustus and Silvanus were important leaders, called consuls, during that year.

Important Events

  • Emperor Augustus received a very special title. The Roman Senate called him Pater Patriae. This means "father of the country." It showed how much the Roman people respected him.
  • Julia the Elder, who was Emperor Augustus's daughter, was sent away from Rome. This happened because of serious disagreements.
  • Phraates V became the new king. He began to rule the Parthian Empire. This was a powerful kingdom in ancient Asia.

New Arrivals

  • Jesus (around this time, according to some historians)

People Who Passed Away

  • Iullus Antonius, who was the son of Mark Antony. He had been an important Roman leader in 10 BC.
  • Phraates IV, the former king of Parthia.
