Big Events of 710
- In Japan, the year 710 was very important. It marked the end of the Asuka period and the start of the Nara period. During this time, the city of Heijō-kyō (which is now Nara) became the new capital city of Japan.
- In China, on April 5, Emperor Zhongzong held a fun tug of war game. It happened during the Cold Food Festival in his palace in Chang'an City. He even laughed when some older officials fell down!
- A new Muslim kingdom, called the Emirate of Nekor, was started in Morocco.
- In North Africa, a leader named Count Julian invited a Muslim army into the city of Ceuta. Count Julian was against Roderic, the king of the Visigoths. He encouraged the Muslim army to invade the Iberian Peninsula, which is where Spain and Portugal are today.
- Roderic became the new king of the Visigoths. He took the place of the previous king, Achila.
- The first Al-Aqsa Mosque was finished. This important mosque was made of wood.
