On 7 February 2012, Christensen joined Chelsea for free. He chose Chelsea because he liked their style of play. He was first part of Chelsea's senior team squad in May 2013.

First Steps at Chelsea (2014–2015)

Christensen made his professional debut for Chelsea on 28 October 2014. He played as a right-back in a League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town. Chelsea won the game 2–1.

He also played in an FA Cup match in January 2015, but Chelsea lost that game. Even though he didn't play much, Chelsea won the League Cup that season. Their manager, José Mourinho, praised Christensen for his contributions.

On 13 April 2015, Christensen played for Chelsea's Under-19 team in the 2014–15 UEFA Youth League final. They won the match 3–2. He made his Premier League debut on 24 May, coming on as a substitute against Sunderland.

On 10 July 2015, Christensen joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany on a two-year loan. He made his debut on 10 August in a cup match. Five days later, he played his first Bundesliga game.

He scored his first professional goals on 5 February 2016, scoring twice in a 5–1 win. After his first season, fans voted him the team's Player of the Season. Mönchengladbach tried to buy him permanently, but Chelsea said no.

In the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League, Christensen scored a goal against Fiorentina to help his team win. He also scored against Schalke in the next round.
