Arthur defended his title on March 5, 2006. He won against Australian boxer Shannan Taylor by a unanimous decision. Two months later, Arthur won his second title defense against Kofi Jantuah. He also won that fight on points.

Abraham vs. Miranda: A Tough Fight

On September 23, 2006, Arthur won a fight against undefeated boxer Edison Miranda. This was a very tough fight. Arthur's jaw was broken in two places in the fourth round. Miranda fought unfairly, hitting Arthur below the belt and headbutting him. Miranda lost five points because of this. Even without those points, Arthur still won the fight. His jaw needed surgery the night after the fight. Doctors put 22 screws into two titanium plates. After this fight, Arthur was praised for finishing despite his serious injury.

Arthur then defeated Canadian boxer Sébastien Demers by knockout in the third round. Arthur was much stronger than his opponent. Arthur won his fifth title defense by beating fellow Armenian boxer Khoren Gevor. He won by knockout in the 11th round with a strong left hook.

Moving to Super-Middleweight

The Super Six World Boxing Classic

Arthur said he didn't see Dirrell fall. Dirrell was taken to the hospital for a brain scan. Arthur had his first professional loss because of this disqualification.

Abraham vs. Stieglitz: Winning the Title

In April 2012, the WBO said Arthur would challenge WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz. The fight happened on August 25 in Berlin. Arthur won by a unanimous decision after twelve rounds. This made Arthur a champion in two different weight classes. He became the second Armenian and first German to do this. The judges' scores were very close. Arthur was named the best boxer in Germany in 2012. His coach, Ulli Wegner, was named best coach.

Defending the Title

On October 9, 2012, Mehdi Bouadla was confirmed as Arthur's first title defense. The fight took place on December 15 in Nuremberg, Germany. Arthur kept his title against Bouadla. He won by technical knockout in the eighth round. Bouadla had a cut near his eye, which made it hard for him to see. Arthur said it felt great to be world champion in front of 10,000 people.

Five days after the Bouadla fight, a rematch with Stieglitz was planned for early 2013. The fight happened on March 3 in Stieglitz's hometown of Magdeburg, Germany. Arthur's eye swelled shut quickly in the second round. He could not see. The referee stopped the fight at the start of the fourth round, and Arthur lost.

Getting Back on Track

After losing his world title, Arthur had two more fights in 2013. First, he beat Willbeforce Shihepo by unanimous decision. Arthur won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title. Two months later, Arthur successfully defended this title against Giovanni De Carolis by unanimous decision.

WBO Super-Middleweight Champion (Second Time)

Abraham vs. Stieglitz III: The Decider

A third fight with Stieglitz happened on March 1, 2014. The WBO super middleweight title was on the line again. The fight was in Magdeburg, Germany. It was a very close fight. Stieglitz was aggressive, but Arthur used counter-punches. Stieglitz took a knee in the final round. Arthur won the fight by a split decision. Arthur was more active in the last five rounds, which helped him win.

In April, Arthur planned a quick first defense. He fought Serbian boxer Nikola Sjekloća on May 3, 2014, in Berlin. Arthur won the fight on points after 12 rounds. Arthur thought he broke his hand in round 7. He boxed carefully for the rest of the fight.

Abraham vs. Smith: Two Fights

On July 21, 2014, it was announced that Arthur would defend his WBO title against English boxer Paul Smith. The fight took place on September 27 in Germany. Arthur defeated Smith to keep his title. The decision was controversial because the scores were very wide. Many British fans booed the decision.

The WBO reviewed the fight. They did not order an immediate rematch. However, Smith stayed high in their rankings. By the end of October, Arthur agreed to fight Smith again in 2015. The rematch happened on February 21, 2015, in Berlin. Arthur won again by points after 12 rounds. Arthur was mostly in control, landing many power punches. Smith praised Arthur after the fight. The fight was watched by over 4 million people in Germany.

Abraham vs. Stieglitz IV: The Final Showdown

Arthur fought Robert Stieglitz for the fourth and final time on July 18, 2015. The fight was called 'Final Showdown'. Arthur won by TKO in the sixth round. Stieglitz was knocked down once in round 4. Arthur was ahead on all judges' scorecards when the fight stopped.

Talks in October suggested Arthur and Martin Murray might fight again in Monaco. The fight was planned as a non-title bout. The winner would become the mandatory challenger for the WBO super middleweight title. Arthur got an elbow injury in training and had to pull out.

Abraham vs. Krasniqi

The World Boxing Organization ordered a fight between Arthur and Robin Krasniqi. This was an eliminator fight. An agreement was reached for the fight to happen on April 22, 2017, in Erfurt, Germany. Arthur hurt Krasniqi in the second half of the fight. He won by a 12-round unanimous decision. This earned him another chance at a world title. Krasniqi started well, but Arthur's right hand in round 6 changed the fight.

Abraham vs. Eubank Jr.

He had to lose the extra weight.

Eubank Jr. won by a unanimous decision. The scores were 120–108, 120–108, and 118–110. Arthur had little to offer and was mostly defending. Eubank Jr. landed many uppercuts. Arthur landed only a few clean shots. This was Arthur's second loss in his last four fights.

Retirement from Boxing

Arthur appeared in Cologne, Germany, for a fun exhibition match. He fought entertainer Oliver Pocher in a bouncy, castle-like "ring." They used huge, air-cushion boxing gloves. On April 9, 2010, Arthur joined the dance show Let's Dance on RTL. But he left after the first episode to focus on boxing.

In the movie Max Schmeling (2010), Arthur played a supporting role. He played boxer Richard Vogt, who was Schmeling's last opponent. Just like in real life, Ulli Wegner was in his corner.

Arthur sent a letter of sympathy to the family of Vladimir Yengibaryan after he passed away.

Personal Life

His family calls him "Avo," which is short for Avetik. Arthur Abraham is married to Lusya Hovhannisyan. They have three children: Grigor, Maria, and Diana. His younger brother Alexander is also a professional boxer.

Arthur plans to open a boxing school in Armenia after he fully retires. He also wants to have foreign-language classes there, like English and German. This will help students succeed internationally.
