In the late 1940s and early 1950s, other female singers were very popular. But Asha Bhosle sang more songs than most singers in Hindi films during the 1950s. Many of these songs were for smaller films. She started gaining recognition with songs like those in Sangdil (1952).

Film director Bimal Roy gave her a chance to sing in Parineeta (1953). Then, Raj Kapoor chose her to sing all the songs in Boot Polish (1954). This helped her become very popular.

Asha Bhosle worked a lot with music director O. P. Nayyar. Their big success came with B. R. Chopra's Naya Daur (1957). Her duets with Mohammad Rafi, like "Maang Ke Saath Tumhara" and "Uden Jab Jab Zulfein Teri," became very famous. This was the first time she sang all the songs for a film's main actress. B. R. Chopra continued to work with her on many other films.

In 1966, Asha Bhosle's songs for R.D. Burman's film Teesri Manzil were a huge hit. She worked hard to sing the Western-style songs like "Aaja Aaja" and "O Haseena Zulfonwali."
