During this time, he started practicing Tae Kwon Do. Before becoming a professional fighter, he worked at a garage changing tires. He also had fifteen "Tough Man" fights, which are like boxing matches, before starting his mixed martial arts career.

Mixed Martial Arts Career
Brett Rogers had an exciting career in mixed martial arts. He fought in several big promotions.
EliteXC Fights
After a fight in EliteXC: Primetime, Rogers challenged another fighter, Kimbo Slice. Rogers said Kimbo's previous fight was not good. He wanted to fight Kimbo in the cage. However, EliteXC closed down later that year. So, the fight between Rogers and Kimbo Slice never happened.
Strikeforce Matches
In February 2009, Rogers joined Strikeforce. On June 6, 2009, at Strikeforce: Lawler vs Shields, he won against former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski. Rogers won by TKO (Technical Knockout) very quickly, in just 22 seconds. This win made Rogers a top heavyweight fighter in Strikeforce.
He then agreed to fight the famous MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko. This big fight, called Fedor vs Rogers, happened on November 7. In the second round, Fedor landed a strong punch that knocked Rogers down. The referee stopped the fight. This was Brett's first loss in his career.
Rogers was set to fight Alistair Overeem on May 15, 2010. This fight was for Overeem's Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship. Rogers lost to Overeem by TKO in the first round. After this, Rogers won a fight against Ruben Villareal by decision. On June 18, 2011, Rogers lost to Josh Barnett by a submission move called a one-arm triangle choke. This was part of a heavyweight tournament.
Independent Fights
Rogers returned to MMA at Titan Fighting Championships 20. He fought UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez. Rogers lost this fight by a split decision. A planned fight in Korea in August 2013 was canceled.
Bellator Fights
On June 5, 2012, Rogers signed with Bellator Fighting Championships. He had his first Bellator fight on June 22, 2012, at Bellator 71. He won against Kevin Asplund by TKO. The referee stopped the fight because Asplund's eye was too swollen.
Rogers then joined the Bellator season seven heavyweight tournament. He faced Alexander Volkov in the quarter-finals at Bellator 75. Volkov won the fight by unanimous decision. Rogers later shared that he had broken his arm during the fight. Another fight against Eric Prindle was canceled when Prindle pulled out.
