Cherish is an American R&B music group made up of four sisters: Fallon, Felisha, Farrah, and Neosha King. They are from Atlanta, Georgia. Their parents were also musicians; their dad was in a band called Professions of Sounds, which toured with famous groups like the Emotions and Earth, Wind & Fire. The group signed with Capitol Records and Sho'nuff Records. They became very popular with their hit song "Do It to It".

The group first became known in 2003 when they were featured on the song "In Love wit Chu" by Da Brat. Soon after, they released their first official song, "Miss P.", which had some success on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the US. Because "Miss P." didn't become a big hit, their first album was canceled. However, they kept making music and sang on the soundtrack for The Powerpuff Girls Movie.

In 2006, Cherish released their second official song, "Do It to It". This song was a huge success with both critics and fans. After this hit, they released their first album, Unappreciated. It reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the US. In 2008, the group released their second album, The Truth. This album didn't do as well as their first, but it did include their second Top 40 hit, "Killa", which reached number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Fallon and Felisha also write songs for other artists. Felisha has written for Tamar Braxton and Sevyn Streeter. She also co-wrote Jacob Latimore's song "Climb" with Fallon.

About the Group

How Cherish Started

The group Cherish originally had four sisters: Farrah King (born in 1984), Neosha King (born in 1986), and twins Fallon and Felisha King (born in 1988). They were originally from Maywood, Illinois, but they moved to Atlanta, Georgia to start their music careers. The sisters have said they have been a group since Farrah, the oldest, was just two years old. They started singing professionally very early, with Farrah beginning at age seven.

In an interview with MTV, the girls shared that their father, who was also their manager, brought them together because their parents were singers too. When asked how they chose the name "Cherish," they explained, "It's funny because we were sitting in the hotel room trying to come up with a name for the group. My father... asked us 'well what do you cherish?' Do you cherish what you do? We said yes and that's how the name Cherish came about."

Early Success and First Album Plans

Cherish first gained attention in 2003 when they teamed up with hip hop artist Da Brat for a song. The song, called "In Love wit Chu", was released on March 3, 2003. It became a success in the United States, appearing on many music charts. The song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40 chart, peaking at number 9. It also did well on the Hot Rap Songs chart, reaching number 12. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song almost made it into the top 40, peaking at number 44.

Cherish's first song as a solo group was "Miss P.", produced by Jermaine Dupri and written by Kandi, also featuring Da Brat. They had signed with Warner Bros.' Reprise Records. After their successful song with Da Brat, "Miss P." was expected to be a big hit. However, it didn't appear on any major charts in the US or other countries. It did have some small success on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the United States, where it reached number 87. The song didn't get much promotion, which might be why it wasn't a bigger hit. Because "Miss P." didn't do well, the group's first album, called The Moment, was put aside a few months later. After their album was shelved, the group recorded three songs for The Powerpuff Girls: Power Pop soundtrack: "Chemical X", "Power of a Female", and "Me and My Girls". A music video for "Power of the Female" was shown on Cartoon Network in mid-2003 to promote the song.

Unappreciated Album and Big Hits

In 2005, the sisters started working on a new album since their first one was never released. They wrote almost all the songs themselves, saying this new music felt more grown-up and true to who they are. The album had songs produced by Jermaine Dupri, Don Vito, and Jazze Pha.

On March 21, 2006, Cherish released their first new song in three years, called "Do It to It". This song featured Sean P singing along. It received great reviews and was very popular. The song was a huge hit in the US, appearing on several Billboard charts. It was their first song to reach the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 12. It also did well on the Pop 100 chart (number 9) and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (number 10). "Do It to It" was also a big hit in New Zealand, reaching number 3. It made it into the top 40 in the United Kingdom (number 30) and Ireland (number 34). The song also charted in other countries like Australia, Germany, and France.

After "Do It to It" became a hit, their first album, Unappreciated, was released on August 15, 2006, by Capitol Records. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, selling 91,000 copies in its first week. This made it one of the few R&B girl group albums to reach the top five on that chart in almost a year. The album also charted in Japan and the United Kingdom. By September 21, 2006, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA, meaning it had sold over 500,000 copies.

On January 12, Cherish released the album's second song, the title track "Unappreciated". Critics liked the song, but it didn't become as big a hit as "Do It to It". In the US, it peaked at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. It did better on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, reaching number 14. A third song called "Chevy" was planned, but it was only released as a promotional song. This happened because their record label, Capitol, was merging with another label, which stopped all promotion for many artists. By April 29, 2007, the album Unappreciated had sold over 600,000 copies in the United States.

During this time, Cherish was an opening act for Chris Brown's Up Close & Personal Tour. The tour ran from August to October. Cherish had to cancel some shows, especially in California, due to rumors that the group was disorganized. It was said that Neosha was the only member fully committed. Farrah's son being sick also caused the group to cancel or shorten their shows when she was not there. However, Cherish then went on a promotional tour in Europe in November and finished the year with some holiday shows in December.

The Truth Album and Changes

In 2007, the girls confirmed they were back in the studio making a new album. They later said the album would feature music from producers like Don Vito, Blade, Jazze Pha, and Tricky Stewart. In the summer of 2007, a song called "Bat to the Range" was leaked online, but it was later decided not to include it on their second album.

In October 2007, Cherish announced that the first song from their second album would be released the next month. It was confirmed to be "Killa", featuring Yung Joc. The song was released for radio and digital download on November 27, 2007. The music video for "Killa" was shown on BET on December 12 and included scenes from the movie Step Up 2: The Streets. The video was directed by Little X. In the US, "Killa" became another hit for the group. It was their second song to reach the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 39. It also reached number 23 on the Pop 100 chart. However, it was one of their lowest-charting songs on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, only reaching number 53. On the UK Singles Chart, the song reached number 52. It was also their first song to chart in the Czech Republic (number 10) and their second top 20 hit in New Zealand (number 18).

Their second album, titled The Truth, was released on May 13, 2008. In an interview, Fallon said about the album, "The biggest difference to me is the fact that you grow artistically whenever you're being creative and we've been creative for the past couple of years. Our artistry has grown. When we wrote The Truth, we named the album The Truth because basically every song on the album is from personal experiences and we wanted to get personal with our fans. We want everybody to know that they're not alone going through these things and we're here." The album was released in the UK on May 12 and in Japan on May 14, with two extra songs. In the US, the album sold only 13,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number 40 on the Billboard 200. By 2011, the album had sold only 30,000 copies in the United States. A second song from the album, "Amnesia", was released but didn't become a hit. It reached number 61 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

In spring 2008, Fallon and Felisha said they were working on a separate project without the other two members. Under the name F+F, they started recording an album apart from Cherish. This made many fans wonder if the group was breaking up. In early 2009, a song by F+F called "Infected" was leaked online, which made the breakup rumors even stronger. Soon after, Farrah and Neosha left the group, leaving only Fallon and Felisha. Not much was heard from Cherish until 2010 when they released a tribute song for Haiti called The Voices Beyond. A few weeks later, the duo filmed a music video for the song "Don't Let Him Get Away" by Rasheeda, as they were featured on the track. On September 28, 2010, another F+F song called "Lights Out" was leaked. Later in 2010, Capitol Records confirmed that the remaining members of Cherish would release a new album called "The Breakthrough". On October 27, 2010, Fallon & Felisha said in an interview that "Cherish is a brand and a bond that is unbreakable. We plan on having a very long career in the music industry and to definitely release more albums as a group in the near future." In mid-November 2010, music videos for "Infected" and "Lights Out" were filmed but were not released.

New Music and Reunions

On May 10, 2011, Cherish announced on their official Facebook page that they were working on a new album. On September 20, 2011, they stated on Facebook that all four sisters had reunited and would release new music in November.

A song called "Like That" by Fallon and Felisha was featured in the 2011 movie S.W.A.T.: Firefight (a sequel to 2003's S.W.A.T.) and on its soundtrack. Fallon and Felisha also announced on Twitter that their next song would be "Young Forever". However, plans for this song became unclear after Cherish announced their full reunion in May 2011.

On November 18, 2011, Cherish confirmed that their new EP (a shorter album) would not be released in November as planned. The release date was then moved to February 2012. In December 2011, two new songs, "Invader" and "Secretary", were leaked online as Cherish tracks. On January 14, 2012, Cherish announced a possible reality TV show about the band and that they were filming the first episode. On February 22, 2013, Cherish announced on Facebook that a song called "Get That Boy" would be released on March 1, 2013. A video for promotion was also uploaded to the band's YouTube page. However, the song was later pushed back to March 15, 2013, in favor of "Going in Circles", which was released on March 2, 2013, on YouTube.

On December 19, 2016, Fallon and Felisha King announced in a Facebook live video that they were reuniting as Cherish again, working on new music as a duo. They said that Farrah and Neosha would be featured on many songs, but the group would mostly be a two-person act.

On February 5, 2017, Fallon and Felisha King shared their excitement for their upcoming album. They announced they would release four songs one after another and that a new tour was coming. The first song, "One Time", was released on February 24, 2017, through their Facebook page.

Recent Success and Remixes

In 2021, Fallon and Felisha appeared in BET Presents: The Encore. This show documented the creation of the R&B supergroup BluPrint, which included them along with Shamari Devoe of Blaque and Kiely Williams of 3LW. Their first EP as BluPrint was released on August 11, 2021.

Also in 2021, a DJ and producer named Charlie Duncker (known as Acraze) remixed Cherish's 2006 song "Do It to It". The original song was a UK Top 40 hit. The new version, called "Acraze featuring Cherish", was released on August 20, 2021. On November 12, this remixed track entered the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart for the first time, reaching number 36. It also became a top 40 hit in Germany and Ireland. By December 7, 2021, "Do It to It" reached the UK Top 10, climbing to number 9. The song also reached the top 3 on the Official Irish Singles Chart. In the United States, it reached number three on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. In Australia, it reached number 13 on the ARIA Club Tracks chart.

Music Style

Cherish's album Unappreciated mainly features hip hop and R&B songs. When asked about the album's style, the group said: "You can expect a lot of realness, [and] we're trying to bring real R&B back to the world. Right now, R&B is not a genre anymore. It's pop, it's hip-hop, it's other things. I wanna bring back rhythm and blues."

In another interview, the girls talked about how different this album was from their first one that was never released: "Well it's very different coming out now because with this album we have more creative control. When we came out in 2003, we were young and we didn't have much of a say in what went down. But this time around, we were able to write every song on the album, which makes this album very personal for all of us." They also added, "From this album you can expect realness. Expect to hear all of our individual voices. A lot of crunk tracks like our first single 'Do It to It'. Also expect a lot of a cappella singing."
