Disney Tsum Tsum (Japanese: ディズニー ツムツム, Hepburn: Dizunī Tsumutsumu), pronounced "(t)soom (t)soom", are super cute, collectible stuffed toys. They are based on characters from Disney. The name "Tsum Tsum" comes from the Japanese word tsumu, which means "to stack". This is because the toys are designed to stack up on top of each other, forming a fun pyramid shape! You can also find vinyl versions of these toys.
Tsum Tsums first came out in Japan in 2013. They were created to go along with Tsum Tsum arcade and mobile games. Disney started selling them in the United States in July 2014. They also arrived in Disneyland Paris and South Korea around the same time. By 2014, over 1.8 million Tsum Tsum toys had been sold! By 2019, the Tsum Tsum toys and games had earned about $2.5 billion. There's even a party game called Disney Tsum Tsum Festival for the Nintendo Switch. You can play mini-games as a Tsum Tsum with up to four players.

What Tsum Tsums Look Like
Tsum Tsum toys are usually made from soft felt, tiny beads, and stuffing. But you can also find hard plastic versions. They have a round, oval shape and come in different sizes.
When they first came out, there were three main sizes:
- "Mini" (about 3.5 inches long)
- "Medium" (about 11 inches long)
- "Large" (about 17 inches long)
Later, new sizes were added:
- A "mega" size (about 21.5 inches) was released in Japan in 2014.
- A "small" size (about 7.5 inches) became available through a special subscription in 2015.
- A tiny "micro" size (about 2 inches) was introduced in Japan in late 2015.
Who Are the Tsum Tsum Characters?
Disney offers tons of different characters in the Tsum Tsum collection. You can find classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Chip 'n' Dale, Pluto, and Goofy.
Many other popular Disney characters are also Tsum Tsums, including:
- Characters from Lilo & Stitch
- Characters from Winnie the Pooh
- Characters from Toy Story
- Characters from Monsters, Inc.
- Characters from Big Hero 6
- Characters from Star Wars
- Characters from Cars
Even Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange have their own Tsum Tsum versions!
Disney also releases special Tsum Tsums for holidays and events. For example, in 2019, the members of the famous rock band Queen (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon) were added to the Japanese mobile game as Tsum Tsums. If you played as Freddie Mercury, you would hear "We Are the Champions"!
There's also a cartoon series with the Tsum Tsum characters.

Disney Tsum Tsum is a popular free-to-play mobile puzzle game. It's available for iOS and Android phones and tablets. The game features Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars characters as Tsum Tsum toys.
There are two main versions of the game: an original Japanese version and a global version. Both versions get updated regularly with new characters and events. You need an internet connection to play the game.
By 2017, the game had been downloaded over 70 million times. It had also earned over $1 billion from players buying in-game items. By 2019, the game's total earnings reached $1.5 billion, mostly from Japan.
How to Play Disney Tsum Tsum
The game's story is that the Tsum Tsum toys have fallen off the shelves at the Disney Store. Your job is to put them back before the store opens!
To play, you drag your finger across your phone screen to connect at least three of the same Tsums. When you connect them, they disappear from the screen. More Tsums then fall down from the top. You try to clear as many Tsums as you can before time runs out.
- Scoring Points: You earn more points and coins by connecting four or more Tsums at once.
- Magical Bubbles: If you connect seven or more Tsums, a magical bubble appears. Tap it to clear even more Tsums around it!
- Fever Mode: As you clear Tsums, a "Fever Meter" fills up. When it's full, you enter "Fever Mode" for ten seconds. During this time, you get five extra seconds on your timer, Tsums clear faster, and your combos won't break.
- MyTsum Skills: Before each game, you pick a "MyTsum." As you clear your MyTsum characters, a special meter fills up. When it's full, you can use your MyTsum's unique special ability!
There are two main types of Tsums you can get:
- Happiness Box Tsums: These cost 10,000 coins each. They include characters from Mickey & Friends, Chip 'n' Dale, and Winnie the Pooh.
- Premium Box Tsums: These cost 30,000 coins each. They include many more characters and usually have stronger skills. Some special Tsums can only be earned during events.
You can also find special ways to get Tsums:
- Pick-Up Capsules: These have a set number of specific Tsums. If you get all of them, you earn a "Skill Ticket" to improve any Tsum you own.
- Select Boxes: These offer a higher chance to get certain Tsums compared to regular Premium Boxes.
The game also has bingo cards with missions. If you complete a line or the whole card, you win prizes like free Tsums or Skill Tickets. There are also special events with unique missions and rewards.
Playing a round of Disney Tsum Tsum costs one "heart." Hearts refill over time, or you can get them by completing missions, using "Rubies" (the game's special currency), or by sending hearts to your Line and Facebook friends who play the game. Sending hearts to friends doesn't cost you your own hearts! If you claim a heart from a friend within an hour, you also get 200 coins.
