Company History

How Dr. Oetker Started
Dr. Oetker was started by August Oetker in 1891. His very first product was called Backin. This was a special type of baking powder that came in a measured amount. It was perfect for making a cake when mixed with about 500 grams of flour and other ingredients.
Growing Through the Years
August Oetker's grandson, Rudolf August Oetker, took over the company in 1944 and led it until 1981. During this time, Dr. Oetker grew a lot! The company started to expand all over the world, buying many other companies.
After Rudolf August Oetker, the next generation of the Oetker family took charge. They believed that the company's success was more important than just one family member's wishes.
August Oetker, the great-grandson of the founder, was in charge from 1981 to 2010. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow in many different areas, including food and brewing.
In 2010, Richard Oetker, who is August Oetker's brother, became the CEO.
