About Gary D. Robson

Gary Douglas Robson was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1958. He grew up in Colorado and finished high school there in 1976.

He started writing for technical magazines in 1984. Later, he wrote many computer manuals. His first book came out in 1996. Gary kept writing while working in the electronics industry. In 2001, he and his wife moved to Montana. They bought a bookstore there. He also worked as the publisher and editor for a local newspaper called The Local Rag.

Gary Robson's Work with Closed Captioning

A patent means he invented something new and has the right to make it. In 1997, he received an award for his great work in making information more accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

He wrote three books about closed captioning. The most well-known is The Closed Captioning Handbook. In 2014, he gave a TED Talk where he spoke about how closed captioning helps deaf people.
