Gingins is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is part of the Nyon district.

History of Gingins

Gingins was first mentioned in old writings around the years 1144-1159. A very important battle took place here in October 1535. The forces from the Republic of Geneva fought against Charles III, who was the Duke of Savoy. The Duke of Savoy lost the battle.

Geography and Nature

Gingins covers an area of about 12.6 square kilometers (about 4.8 square miles). A large part of this land, about 58.7%, is covered by forests. About 34.3% of the land is used for farming. The rest of the area, about 6.3%, has buildings and roads.

Gingins is located at the bottom of the Jura Mountains. You can find it along the road that connects Nyon to La Dôle.

Gingins' Coat of Arms

The coat of arms for Gingins is a special design that represents the town. It has two main parts. The top part shows a black lion coming out of a silver background with black shapes. The bottom part is red and shows two silver halberds (a type of old weapon) crossed over each other.

The top part of the coat of arms comes from the Gingins family. This family ruled the village and the surrounding areas for nearly 600 years!
