Jesse Ellis Lingard (born 15 December 1992) is an English professional footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. Jesse is currently the captain for K League 1 club FC Seoul.
He has won many important trophies. These include the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield. Jesse is one of only three players to score in the finals of the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Community Shield.
Lingard started his senior career on loan at Leicester City in 2012. He also played on loan for Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Derby County. In 2015, he joined the main team at Manchester United.
He played regularly for Manchester United until 2019. Later, he had a great loan spell with West Ham United in 2021. He scored nine goals in 16 games. After leaving Manchester United, he joined Nottingham Forest. Seven months later, he moved to South Korean club FC Seoul.
Jesse Lingard also played for England's national teams. He played for the under-17 and under-21 teams. He made his debut for the senior team in 2016. He played for England in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where England finished fourth.

Jesse Lingard was born in Warrington, England. He went to William Beamont Community High School.

Youth Team Journey
Jesse Lingard began playing football at a young age. He played for local teams like Fletcher Moss Rangers and Penketh United. When he was seven, he joined the Manchester United youth academy.
He moved up through the different age groups. Jesse was part of the Manchester United team that won the 2010–11 FA Youth Cup. In July 2011, he signed his first professional contract.
After joining the reserve and under-21 teams, Lingard helped them win two championships. These were in 2011–12 and 2012–13. He also won the Manchester Senior Cup and Lancashire Senior Cup with these teams.
First Senior Team Calls
Jesse was first part of the senior team on 30 November 2011. This was for a League Cup game against Crystal Palace. He did not play in that match.
He was also called up on 4 January 2012 for a Premier League game. Again, he did not get to play.
2012–13 Season: Loan to Leicester City

On 6 November 2012, Lingard joined Leicester City on a one-month loan. He played his first professional game that same day. It was a 0–0 draw against Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.
His loan was extended, and he played five games for Leicester City.
2013–14 Season: Loans for Experience
Lingard joined Manchester United's pre-season tour in 2013. He scored his first two goals for United in a friendly match. This was a 5–1 win against the A-League All Stars. He ended the tour as the top scorer with four goals.
Even though he hoped to stay at Manchester United, he went on loan again. On 19 September, he joined Birmingham City for a month. In his first game, he scored four goals in a 4–1 win against Sheffield Wednesday. This was his first hat-trick in senior football.
His loan at Birmingham was extended. He played 13 games and scored 6 goals for them.
Later, on 27 February 2014, Lingard joined another Championship club. This was Brighton & Hove Albion on a 93-day loan. He scored his first goal for Brighton on 8 April. He played 17 games for Brighton and scored 4 goals.
2014–15 Season: First Team Debut
On 4 August 2014, Lingard scored in United's 3–1 win over Liverpool in a cup final. He made his first official game for Manchester United in the 2014–15 Premier League season. He started the match against Swansea City but had to leave early due to an injury.
On 2 February 2015, Lingard went on loan to Derby County. He played 14 games for them and scored 2 goals.
2015–16 Season: Scoring Important Goals

On 7 November 2015, Lingard scored his first goal for Manchester United. It was in a 2–0 win against West Bromwich Albion. He continued to score important goals throughout the season.
On 21 May 2016, Lingard scored the winning goal for Manchester United. This was in the 2016 FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace. He came on as a substitute in the second half.
2016–17 Season: More Trophies
Lingard scored the first goal as Manchester United beat Leicester City 2–1. This win secured the 2016 FA Community Shield. In February 2017, he scored another key goal. It was United's second goal in a 3–2 win over Southampton. This game was the 2017 EFL Cup Final.
On 6 April 2017, Lingard signed a new contract with Manchester United.
2018–19 Season: Strong Performances
On 5 December 2018, Jesse Lingard scored his first league goal of the season. It was in a 2–2 draw against Arsenal. He scored again two weeks later against Liverpool.
Under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Lingard scored two goals and made an assist. This was in United's 5–1 win over Cardiff City. On 25 January 2019, he scored in a 3–1 FA Cup win against Arsenal.
2019–20 Season: Late Goal Heroics
On 26 July 2020, Lingard scored his first goal since December 2018. It was in the very last minute of the final Premier League game. His goal helped Manchester United win 2–0 against Leicester City. This win secured their spot in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League.
2020–21 Season: Loan to West Ham United

On 29 January 2021, Lingard joined West Ham United on loan. He played under his former Manchester United coach, David Moyes. In his first game on 3 February 2021, Lingard scored two goals. West Ham won 3–1 against Aston Villa.
He had a great time at West Ham. He scored nine goals and made four assists in his first 10 Premier League games. His ninth goal was from a penalty against Newcastle United. He scored more Premier League goals for West Ham than in any single season at Manchester United.
For his amazing goals and performances in April, Lingard won two awards. He was named Premier League Player of the Month and won Premier League Goal of the Month. He played 16 games for West Ham, scoring nine goals and assisting five.
2021–22 Season: Leaving Manchester United
On 11 September 2021, Lingard scored for Manchester United in a 4–1 win over Newcastle. On 19 September, he scored a winning goal in the 89th minute against West Ham.
On 1 June 2022, Manchester United announced that Lingard would leave the club. His contract had ended.
Nottingham Forest Experience
On 21 July 2022, Lingard signed a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest. They had just been promoted to the Premier League. He became their highest-paid player for that season.
He did not score or assist in his 17 league games. However, he made two assists and scored twice in the EFL Cup. This helped the team reach the semi-finals. Lingard left Nottingham Forest when his contract ended.
FC Seoul Adventure
On 7 February 2024, Lingard signed a two-year contract with South Korean club FC Seoul. This signing was called "the biggest signing in the K League's history" by a football journalist.
After a game on 16 March, FC Seoul's coach, Kim Gi-dong, said Lingard needed to show more effort. Lingard played for 105 minutes in his first six games. Then, he had knee surgery.
Lingard scored his first goal for FC Seoul on 26 June. It was a penalty kick in a 2–0 home win against Gangwon FC.
International Football Career
Playing for England's Youth Teams
Lingard played three games for the England under-17 team in 2008. He was first called up for the under-21 team on 13 August 2013. He made his debut as a substitute in a 6–0 win against Scotland under-21s.
On 21 June 2015, Lingard came off the bench to score the winning goal. This was in a 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship game against Sweden.
Representing the Senior England Team
Lingard was first called up to the full England squad on 17 November 2015. This was for a friendly game against France. He did not play in that match.
He got his next call-up in October 2016 for World Cup qualifiers. He made his debut against Malta, starting on the left wing. England won 2–0. Lingard scored his first goal for England on 23 March 2018. It was in a 1–0 friendly win over the Netherlands.
In May 2018, Lingard was chosen for England's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. On 24 June, he scored his first World Cup goal. It was in a 6–1 victory over Panama. Lingard started five games in the tournament. England finished fourth.
In November 2018, Lingard scored the first goal in Wayne Rooney's farewell match against the USA. A few days later, he scored the equalizing goal in a 2–1 win over Croatia. This win helped England qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.
Lingard was not chosen for England's Euro 2020 qualifying games in October 2019. But his great performances on loan at West Ham United earned him a recall in March 2021. He was named as a stand-by player for Euro 2020.
In September 2021, Lingard scored two goals for England. This was in a World Cup qualification match against Andorra. England won 4–0.
Personal Life
Jesse Lingard was born in England. His grandparents came from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. He is a cousin of Manchester United and England women's footballer Gabby George.
Lingard has a daughter. In 2018, he started his own clothing brand called JLingz.
