Jesse Ellis Lingard (born 15 December 1992) is an English professional footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder or winger. Jesse is also the captain for the K League 1 club FC Seoul.

He has won several important trophies. These include the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield. Jesse is one of only three players to score in the finals of the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Community Shield.

Lingard started his senior career on loan at Leicester City in 2012. He also played on loan for Birmingham City and Brighton & Hove Albion. In 2015, he joined Derby County on loan.

He became a regular player for Manchester United in 2015. Later, he had a great loan spell with West Ham United in 2021. He scored nine goals in 16 games. After leaving Manchester United, he played for Nottingham Forest. In 2024, he moved to South Korean club FC Seoul.

Jesse Lingard also played for England's national teams. He represented England at under-17 and under-21 levels. He made his senior international debut in October 2016. He played for his country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where England finished fourth.

Jesse Ellis Lingard was born on 15 December 1992. His hometown is Warrington, Cheshire, England. He went to William Beamont Community High School. He also attended Ashton-on-Mersey School Sixth Form. This was because of the school's link with Manchester United.

Starting in Youth Football

Jesse Lingard began playing football at a young age. He played for Fletcher Moss Rangers and Penketh United. When he was seven, he joined Manchester United's youth academy. He moved up through different age groups.

He was part of the Manchester United team that won the 2010–11 FA Youth Cup. In July 2011, he signed his first professional contract. After that, he played for the reserves and under-21 teams. He helped them win championships in 2011–12 and 2012–13. He also won the Manchester Senior Cup and Lancashire Senior Cup.

First Steps in Senior Football

Lingard was first part of a senior team on 30 November 2011. This was for a League Cup game against Crystal Palace. He did not play in that match. He was also called up for a Premier League game in January 2012 but did not play.

2012–13 Season: Loan to Leicester City

On 6 November 2012, Lingard joined Leicester City. He went on loan for one month. He played his first professional game that day. It was a 0–0 draw against Bolton Wanderers. He came on as a substitute late in the game. His loan was extended, and he played five games for Leicester.

2013–14 Season: Loans to Birmingham and Brighton

In 2013, Lingard joined Manchester United's pre-season tour. He scored his first two goals for United in a friendly game. This was a 5–1 win against the A-League All Stars. He scored four goals in total during the tour.

Even though he hoped to stay at Manchester United, he joined Birmingham City on loan. This was on 19 September. In his first game, he scored four goals in a 4–1 win. This was his first hat-trick in senior football. His loan was extended, but he later got a knee injury. He was also sent off in a game against Wigan Athletic.

After returning to Manchester United, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan. This was on 27 February 2014. He scored his first goal for Brighton in April. He played 17 games for Brighton and scored 4 goals.

2014–15 Season: Injury and Another Loan

On 4 August 2014, Lingard scored for United in a friendly win against Liverpool. He made his official debut for Manchester United in the first game of the 2014–15 Premier League season. However, he got injured after only 24 minutes.

On 2 February 2015, Lingard joined Derby County on loan. He played for them until the end of the season. He made his first start for Derby in an FA Cup game.

2015–16 Season: Breaking Through at United

On 7 November 2015, Lingard scored his first goal for Manchester United. It was in a 2–0 win against West Bromwich Albion. He scored more goals that season against Newcastle United and Stoke City.

On 21 May 2016, Lingard scored the winning goal for Manchester United. This was in the 2016 FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace. He came on as a substitute in that game.

2016–17 Season: More Trophies

Lingard scored the first goal as Manchester United beat Leicester City 2–1. This win secured the 2016 FA Community Shield. In February 2017, he scored another important goal. It was United's second goal in a 3–2 win over Southampton. This was in the 2017 EFL Cup Final. On 6 April 2017, Lingard signed a new contract with Manchester United.

2018–19 Season: Scoring Key Goals

On 5 December 2018, Jesse Lingard scored his first league goal of the season. It was in a 2–2 draw against Arsenal. Two weeks later, he scored again in a game against Liverpool. In United's first game under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Lingard scored two goals. He also made an assist in a 5–1 win over Cardiff City. In January 2019, he scored in an FA Cup win against Arsenal.

2019–20 Season: Final Goal for United

On 26 July 2020, Lingard scored his first goal since December 2018. It was in the last game of the Premier League season. His goal helped secure a 2–0 win at Leicester City. This win meant Manchester United qualified for the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League. It was also the very last goal of the 2019–20 Premier League season.

2020–21 Season: Great Loan Spell at West Ham

On 29 January 2021, Lingard joined West Ham United on loan. He played there until the end of the season. He worked again with his former manager, David Moyes. In his first game on 3 February 2021, Lingard scored two goals. West Ham won 3–1 against Aston Villa.

In a game against Wolves in April, Lingard ran a long way with the ball before scoring. He continued to play very well during his loan. He scored nine goals and made four assists in his first 10 Premier League games for West Ham. His ninth goal was a penalty against Newcastle United. This meant he scored more Premier League goals for West Ham than in any single season at Manchester United.

For his great performances in April, Lingard won two awards. He was named Premier League Player of the Month. He also won Premier League Goal of the Month for his goal against Wolves. He played 16 games on loan, scoring nine goals and assisting five.

2021–22 Season: Leaving Manchester United

On 11 September 2021, Lingard scored for Manchester United in a 4–1 win over Newcastle. On 19 September, he scored a winning goal in the 89th minute against West Ham.

On 1 June 2022, Manchester United announced that Lingard would leave the club. His contract had ended.

Time at Nottingham Forest

On 21 July 2022, Lingard signed a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest. They had just been promoted to the Premier League. He became their highest-paid player for the 2022–23 season. He did not score or assist in his 17 league games. However, he made two assists and scored twice in the EFL Cup. This helped the team reach the semi-finals. Lingard left Nottingham Forest when his contract ended.

Playing for FC Seoul

On 7 February 2024, Lingard signed a two-year contract. He joined South Korean K League club FC Seoul. A South Korean football journalist called it "the biggest signing in the K League's history."

After a game in March, FC Seoul's coach, Kim Gi-dong, said Lingard needed to try harder. Lingard played for 105 minutes in the first six games. Then, he had knee surgery.

Lingard scored his first goal for FC Seoul on 26 June. It was a penalty kick in a 2–0 home win against Gangwon FC.

Lingard played three times for England's under-17 team in 2008. He was first called up for the under-21 team in August 2013. He made his debut as a substitute against Scotland under-21s. England won 6–0. In June 2015, Lingard scored the winning goal for the under-21 team. This was in a game against Sweden.

Lingard was first called up to the full England squad in November 2015. This was for a friendly game against France. He did not play in that match.

He was called up again for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October 2016. He made his debut against Malta. England won 2–0. Lingard scored his first goal for England on 23 March 2018. It was in a 1–0 friendly win over the Netherlands.

In May 2018, Lingard was chosen for England's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. On 24 June, he scored his first World Cup goal. This was in a 6–1 win over Panama. During the tournament, Lingard started five games. England finished fourth in the World Cup.

In November 2018, Lingard scored the first goal in Wayne Rooney's farewell match. A few days later, he scored an important goal against Croatia. This helped England win 2–1 and qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.

Lingard was not in the England squad for some games in October 2019. But his good play for West Ham United in 2021 earned him a recall. In May 2021, he was named as a stand-by player for Euro 2020.

In September 2021, Lingard scored two goals for England. This was in a World Cup qualification game against Andorra. England won 4–0.

Jesse Lingard's Personal Life

Jesse Lingard was born in England. His grandparents on his father's side came from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Jesse is also a cousin of Manchester United and England women's footballer Gabby George.

His parents separated when he was very young. His grandfather often took him to training. Jesse also helped care for his younger siblings, Jasper and Daisy-Boo.

Lingard has a daughter from a past relationship.

In 2018, Lingard started his own clothing brand called JLingz.
