Jordan is a country in the Middle East. It first joined the Olympic Games in 1980. Since then, Jordan has sent its best athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games. This means they have been part of the Summer Olympics for many years!

Did you know Jordan also competed in the Winter Olympics once? In 1992, Mohamed Hadid took part in speed skiing. This was a special moment for Jordan in the winter sports.

Jordan had to wait a while for its first Olympic medal. It finally happened at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. That's when Ahmad Abughaush won a gold medal in Taekwondo. This was a huge victory for Jordan!

Later, at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Jordan won another medal. Saleh Al-Sharabaty earned a silver medal, also in taekwondo. Then, at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Zaid Kareem won a silver medal in taekwondo too. Jordan also won a bronze medal in Karate at the 2020 Games.

You might hear about two other bronze medals from the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Samer Kamal and Ihsan Abu-Sheikha won these in taekwondo. However, taekwondo was a "demonstration sport" back then. This means it was shown off, but the medals weren't counted as official Olympic medals.

The National Olympic Committee for Jordan was started in 1957. It was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1963. Today, the Jordan Olympic Committee is led by Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein.
