Imagine climbing really tall mountains! In Scotland, there's a special group of mountains called Munros. These are mountains that are over 3,000 feet (about 914 meters) high and are officially listed by the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC). The SMC also lists "Munro Tops," which are peaks that are also over 3,000 feet but are considered part of a larger Munro mountain.
As of 2012, there were 282 Munros. Later, in 2020, there were 226 Munro Tops. In total, the SMC lists 508 peaks that are either Munros or Munro Tops.
The idea of Munros started way back in 1891. Most of the Munros we know today were on that very first list! People who manage to climb all the Munros are called "Munroists." The first person to do this was A. E. Robertson in 1901. By the end of 2022, over 7,390 people had become Munroists! There's even a special club for them called the Munro Society.
