Paws and Whiskers is a special book published in 2014. It's a collection of some of the best stories ever written about cats and dogs for children. The famous author Jacqueline Wilson chose all the stories, and Nick Sharratt created the fun pictures.
This book was made to help the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, a charity that cares for abandoned pets. A new story by Jacqueline Wilson, called Leonie's Pet Cat, is included. You'll also find parts of classic books like The Hundred and One Dalmatians and Through the Looking Glass.
Before it was published, the book was sometimes called Battersea Cats and Dogs Anthology. Money from every book sold goes to the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Even though "dogs" comes first in the charity's name, the book starts with cat stories. Then comes a special "Pets' Corner" section, and finally, the dog stories. The "Pets' Corner" has new stories from well-known children's authors about their own pets.
The book's cover shows lots of different pets. Francesca Simon, who wrote a story about her dog, said that her Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti, is on the cover in the bottom right corner.

What People Think of the Book
The CBBC channel did a special book club report about Paws and Whiskers. Katie Thistleton said it was a "brilliant read." Lots of people have commented on the report, sharing their thoughts. The Guardian newspaper also reviewed the book. Kat Winter gave it an 8.5 out of 10, but wished the stories were longer because she wanted to know more!
Helping Animals: The Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
A small part of the money from every Paws and Whiskers book sold goes to the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. This is the same place where Jacqueline Wilson adopted her own cats, Jacob and Lily.
The Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is a charity that helps abandoned cats and dogs. They work hard to find new, loving homes for these animals. They also visit schools to teach kids about animal care. Representatives from the charity even came to the book signing event for Paws and Whiskers!
